Handmade: For Cards & Cars

December 17th, 2010 @ 5:06 pm by Mrs. Earrings

We decided simple is best when it came to our card box label and “Just Married” garland—meaning we got scissors and cut out big letters from coloured cardboard…just like kindergartners. I think it worked.

The inspiration for our card box was a vintage suitcase dressed up like these:

Our reality:

(Personal pic) Dont worry, all the clutter inside it wont be there on the day, I’m just storing bits inside so that I can remember to put them on the card/gift table.

I have ogled over multiple lovely “Just Married” garlands on blogs—everything from ones made out of fabric bunting to mini chalkboards. But when it finally came to making our own, we opted for being basic:

We thought about ditching this project altogether, but I’m glad we made it in the end. It isn’t “wow” but it will do, and probably look pretty cute on the back of our little blue getaway car anyway. :)

Have you developed an “it will do” attitude with any of your DIY projects?

I love how they turned out! I was in love with the vintage suitcase card box, but I couldn’t get Mr. Husky to agree to it. Who knew a man could be so picky about such a thing? ;)

I don’t know what a card box is. Why would you need a place to store cards? Is this instead of a wishing well if you’re going the ‘ask for cash’ route?

Won’t the cards be attached to the presents?

@Duckienz: Sometimes people bring a card/cash instead of a present so a card box serves as a handy place to keep them safe and all together until they can be put away :)

I totally stole this idea and found a steal on craigslist for the perfect vintage suitcase…the inside of it is even purple (our colors) yay!
