Mrs. Glasses's Picture
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CA Age and Occupation: 24, English teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacher Engagement Date: September 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyard About Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
About Mrs. Glasses

I needed a PWC big time. I was one of those girls that diligently grew out her hair for the wedding, so my hair was way too long and was falling out in the shower from being too heavy. I chose to donate to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program because their free wigs go to cancer patients.

To donate, I needed to tie my hair back with an elastic band and bring in a Ziploc bag to put the hair in once it was cut. I was really worried about cutting my hair short because I have a lot of thick, frizzy, out of control wavy hair. When I cut my hair short it tends to poof out at the bottom and I turn into a triangle head.

For Beautiful Lengths, I needed to cut off 8 inches. I made sure my hair was freshly washed, fully dry, and free of product and got the big chop.

The stylist sculpted my layers so that I wouldn’t end up a triangle. I was aiming for something short and sleek because I’m on a job hunt and want to look professional and mature. Plus, the image change is refreshing! I ended up donating 10 inches. I made sure my lopped off ponytail stayed in the elastic hair tie, put it in the Ziploc bag then sent it all off in a bubble wrap padded envelope. It was pretty easy and painless for this first timer!

Are you growing your hair out for your wedding? Are you contemplating donating it?

I love the haircut! I’ve donated to Locks of Love twice and will probably do so again after the wedding (although I’ve got a LONG way to go before my hair is long enough to donate).

I grew my hair out for my wedding also. Although it’s been a little over a month and I still haven’t gone to chop it off. I want to donate as well, and everytime I think about going to get it cut I chicken out. Props to you!!!! Hopefully I will get the courage here after the first of the year!

That looks great! I chopped about six inches off of my hair a few months ago (growing it out for the wedding has been a bit TOO successful lol), but I plan to chop and donate to Locks of Love right after the day. FH much prefers me with short hair, but he asked I have an updo for the wedding (go figure lol). I am looking forward to my PWC big time!

I did a pre wedding chop! And I am sooo much happier without all that hair weighing me down. I did it so I could donate too!

Also, your new ‘do is super chic!

I’ve been growing my hair for years and years. Now that it’s finally reached the length I wanted, I’m kinda getting tired of it! After the wedding I’ll definitely be going for something different. Thanks for the idea!
