All the Pretty Vases

December 17th, 2010 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Waffle

My waiting to collect jars and vases for centerpieces did not last long at all. As I’ve said before, if I get a creative itch, I just have to scratch it. Besides raiding my own stash of vases, I also snagged a bunch from MOH Sweet Pea who has a large box full from her wedding that has been sitting in the attic. After that, I headed out on a shopping journey that included Goodwill, Savers, and Uncommon Objects (AKA The Dangerous Store).

Here are some of the pretties I acquired…

A family portrait

As you can see, they’re not all vases. In fact, one of them is just a really cool looking drinking glass. Most of my flower vessels (Is that a better term?) that came from Goodwill or Savers cost one or two dollars each. Not bad!

Thrift-store vessels

The Dangerous Store was where I got into trouble. Sorry, Mr. Waffle. I spent $30 on three pieces there. Shame on me, but the pieces I got were really fantastic. This old vase and milk bottle were five dollars each.

Then a whopping 20 dollars went toward this lady.

She’s a vintage laboratory beaker and is my absolute favorite that will have to be displayed in some place perfectly amazing so that all can see. Since most of the centerpiece parts consist of items we and our friends are recycling or already own, it seems the Waffles will be coming in considerably under budget for decor. Therefore, a 20-dollar splurge on this item seemed reasonable.

Are you collecting any vintage or used items for your decor?

I purchased a lot of vases over the summer at garage sales. I have boxes full of vases just taking up space until the big day. I bought them in a variety of shapes/sizes/colors. My favorites are the milkglass. I think I probably spent abotu $30 total on around 30 vases. Not a bad deal.

Yes, yes, yes!! We’re doing vases, candle holders, and interesting glasses we could use as vases or candle holders. I want banquet seating with a line of mish mashed glasswear running down the center of the tables.

I am doing the EXACT same as you. I have about 35-40 vintage glass vessels now.

Love them all! This is so exciting to me! We’re collecting all shapes, sizes, and colors of vintage bottles, mason jars, and vases to be placed along our burlap table runners. About 4 or 5 per 8′ long table with Babys Breath, Queen Anne’s Lace, and some Rosemary thrown in each. So far, I’ve made near weekly trips to the junk store, Goodwill, and have friends and family all collecting for me.

LOVE THEM! I am collecting milk glass vases in all shapes and sizes. So far I have about 30 pieces…shooting for 50. But I have been getting them at amazing prices so a few more than 50 wont hurt :o)

Those are soooo gorgeous! The right-hand one in the second photo looks a little like a bong, but I love it. :) You’re such a good thrifter!

I’ve been collecting cobalt blue vases from flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales, and antique stores. It’s been great finding so many different styles. I love the thrill of the hunt and the fact that each table will look different!

That beaker is great–totally worth it.

@Miss Panther: I thought the same exact thing!

As a chemist, I am totally jealous of your beaker!

We’re doing the same thing. It’s one of my favorite projects. I hit up all the local thrift stores every couple weeks. My favorite has vases for $0.25! I have about 50 so far, but I’m thinking of collecting around 80.

Love it!

I am always amazed at the diligence of collecting Bees. Mrs. Stripes mason jar collecting paid off for me big time! Can’t wait to see what these turn into!

I am doing the same thing and I am being very cheap about it! So far the most I’ve spent if $5 on one vase, but as the fiancee is a chemist I would have splurged on the beaker as well! All us vases collecting brides should have done a bride share!
