Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Trash Pickin’ Again

December 18th, 2010 @ 1:10 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Meet Rick, supplier of vintage frames and all things… well, all things:

Trash Pickin' Again : wedding arlington decor Mail1 mail

This is the front of his place:

This is the entryway:

The entryway I squeezed myself through (next to a giant bathtub) to get inside of this place.

This is his place:

Look familiar?

No, no. This isn’t from an episode of Hoarders, but it looks an awful lot like that place we love to go for milk vases Digger’s Paradise, right? Well, once again we went digging—even in the freezing cold—and found a lot of really inexpensive treasures!

What’s this?

Frames?

Yes, frames galore!

Trash Pickin' Again : wedding arlington decor Mail61 mail6

Well, wouldn’t you know we need frames for our centerpieces! Not just any ol’ frames either. Beautiful, perfect ones for our table decor! They may not look like much, but placed inside our gorgeous venue, alongside our vintage milk vases, and covered in our bounty of flowers, they’ll be perfect.

Oh, hello mom!

I almost missed ya amongst all the stuff!

Trash Pickin' Again : wedding arlington decor Mail81 mail8

Crates anyone?

Trash Pickin' Again : wedding arlington decor Mail91 mail9

Mason jars?

This place has everything, and if there’d been room, I would have taken a lot more with me. Loading everything into the car was quite the chore:

But we got it done:

Guess how much I paid…

Ohhhh! Less than $25! Woo hoo! I love a good bargain.

More on these bad boys later.

Have you gone searching in random places for wedding treasures? Where to, and what did you find?

My SIL and I went somewhere very similar this weekend to look for mismatched vases for her upcoming wedding. It was kind of sketchy, but very cool. We ended up with about 50 vases for $20. Can’t beat that! Love a good junk spot.

We are keeping a vintage theme throughout our wedding, so I too have been a frequent visitor to shops such as these. A little shady, but always fun. So far I have milk bottles and milk bottle crates, mason jars, wash tubs, old farmhouse windows, crates, chalkboards, clothespins, and even a straw holder from an old drugstore!

Can you email me the address of this place? I had the same frame idea for my centerpieces and would love to look for a deal here as I’m also in northern va. Thanks!

I love places like that. I picked up old windows a few weeks ago after the window replacement guy posted free windows on Craigslist. I only took 5 b/c I couldn’t fit more but I so wanted to. I’ll use them for our wedding menu, signs, etc. as chalkboard signs.
