Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Ah, I think I’ve teased you all enough—and I can’t wait any longer, since I may explode if I don’t share my wedding dress with you. First things first though: it’s time to send the other half away from the computer.

Mr. Jaguar, if there’s any post you DON’T want to accidentally read (lest you have a very feisty feline on your hands), it’s this one. Run, Jaguar, Run!

Okay… so with all housekeeping aside, now it’s on to the good stuff. After we’d visited the first two dress stores, my accomplice toothfairyb & I had a quick lunch and discussed the options so far. I had basically ruled out all the dresses I’d tried on, with the exception of the plain v-neck. I’d kept it as a potential mainly because I liked how nice and simple it was, that it gave me a bit of a waist, and budget-wise? It was a good fit.

All the same, we had one last appointment at Sposa in New Westminster. I was nervous when we walked in, because everything looked teeny tiny, and the saleswomen were pretty up front about not having dresses bigger than a 16 in stock. (Read: nervous panic.) They DID have a lot of beautiful lace gowns though, so we picked a few to try on—even a few 14s, though that was more than a little hopeful!

My dress was the first one I tried on. It was a really snug fit, particularly in the bust area, and was everything I DIDN’T think I’d like on. It was strapless…I didn’t want strapless. It was a sweetheart neckline…I didn’t want a sweetheart neckline. It was mermaid style and super fitted…NOT what I was going for at all. But you know, it hugged my body pretty nicely!

I tried it on with a strapless bra at first, and didn’t feel comfy—so quickly whipped it off & ‘free-boobed’ it, where it felt MUCH better. I still didn’t like the strapless look (mostly on the back) so out of nowhere, a lace bolero was materialised, and once I put it on.. that was it. It looks SO perfect with the dress, like it’s actually attached/part of it, and it covers up all the areas that I was so nervous about showing. Are you ready to see it? Squeeee.. here it is!

Excuse the bad lighting: they’re from my iPhone!

I still can’t get over the fact that I squeezed (literally!) into the gown they had in stock, and that it fit almost perfectly. I would like to lose a little more weight/tone up a bit more before the big day, but that’s nothing new—that’s always been my healthy goal anyway. But because the dress is so snug, it has the potential to get unflattering—so there’s my motivation to keep moving! Here are some more shots of the dress:

I’m still undecided on whether I want to get the lace bolero tucked in/attached at the back, or just leave it as is, but we have a good six months to make that decision yet. And…I have a dress!

Did your dress turn out to be nothing like you’d imagined?

LOVE the dress Ms. Jaguar! I vote for attaching the bolero so that way it can help support the dress a bit more. I had tulle straps added to my strapless dress because I have a similar upper body to you and knew I didn’t want to be adjusting my dress all night long.

Gorgeous!

Looks really good. I never tried fitted gowns on because I thought they’d accentuate my hips too much now I wish I had tried some on, oh well I still love my dress.

Absolutely gorgeous, Jaguar! I love it, and you look so fabulous in that dress! Also, I thought the bolero was part of the dress, it matches so well. I vote that if you know you’re not going to wear the dress without the bolero, go ahead and attach it so you’re not worried about if it’s sitting properly all night.

That is am AMAZING dress, and you look smokin’! I too am rather curvy, and was POSITIVE a mermaid dress was out-I had my heart set on a ballgown. At the end of the day I was a mermaid gal though as well ;-) I think girls with curves make mermaid gowns look how they were intended to look! That dress is just…wow. AWESOME choice Jaguar!
