Mrs. Tartlet's Picture
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

My Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn’s character in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of my all time favorites: Holly Golightly is excruciatingly chic and sophisticated, accessorized with a devil-may-care attitude. She’s wild and free-spirited, but her eccentric behavior only serves to mask the vulnerable woman underneath.

Many of us can relate to Miss Golightly, although we conceal our insecurities in different ways. I’m fortunate to have people in my life with whom I can ditch the pearls, who have accepted me for me (neurotic faults and all). They create for me what Tiffany’s was to Holly Golightly: “a place where me and things go together.”

Mr. Tartlet tops that list of special people. We first met in 2001. A year ahead of him at Kalamazoo College, I was his freshman biology TA. I noticed him. He vaguely remembers me. The science gods tried again in 2004, as I ended up his junior biology TA. I’d like to say I used my feminine wiles to successfully lure him in, but really the best I could manage was an uber suave compliment on his lab notebook (chyeah).

We had our first date entirely by chance. A large group of friends were set to see the movie Troy, but one by one they started bailing. Eventually, it was just me, my friend J, and Mr. Tartlet. Knowing my interest in Mr. Tartlet, J did what any good girlfriend would do—she bailed, too. Mr. Tartlet and I had our slightly awkward, accidental date. He asked me out on a real date about a week later, and the rest is history. I’m sure it was the lab-notebook comment that did him in.

When did you first meet your special someone? Did you hit it off right away, or did it take some time for interest to blossom?

You guys are too cute. :) I heart nerdy romances! My FH was the “big sibling” assigned to me when I started my PhD program.

What a cute photo of you two! Mr. H and I definitely had a connection at the beginning, but I was seeing someone else at the time. We didn’t actually start dating for a while after that… I’m glad the science gods finally smiled upon you! :)

Apparently, I was too busy sleeping through her study sessions to notice her my freshman year. I always tell her, if you want to get my attention you have to smack me across the face with a 2×4… so she resorted to crazy pants with crazy back pockets positioned just so. Needless to say, my eyes were instantly drawn and haven’t left. My face is still recovering to this day…

@Mrs. Husky: Isn’t it amazing how much luck (and timing) has to do with a successful relationship?

I’m a sucker for simmering romances. :) Even though it can try your patience sometimes, it’s worth it in the end!
