About Mrs. Elephant

Private Dancer

December 20th, 2010 @ 4:54 pm by Mrs. Elephant

Sorry Tina Turner, there will be no dancing for money here. The title is actually in reference to a private last dance at our reception. I first learned about the private last dance at BM Aggie & Groomsman Runner’s wedding. As the guests left to prepare for the grand exit from the reception, the bride and groom stayed behind in the reception room to have one last dance all alone.

The plan is to have all of the guests exit to prepare for our send off, and the DJ will start our song and then leave the room as well. We won’t be completely alone; one of our photographers will remain to take some shots as we enjoy the last minutes of our wedding day. I am so excited for this moment!

Mr. E and I narrowed it down to two potential songs for our private last dance: Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours

or Eric Benet’s  Spend My Life With You.

We decided that  I’m Yours will be fun for all of our guests so it will be one of our last crowd dances, making  Spend My Life With You our last private dance song.

Have you heard of the private last dance? Would you consider having one at your wedding?

What a lovely thought! I bet it will be one of your favorite moments (if not your most) of your wedding day!

:) I’ll bring up the idea to the Mister; I hope he says yes!

I’ve never heard of this. We couldn’t have done it because a bunch of our guests helped us to pack up the decor, gifts etc. No grand exit either. No big deal to me that’s just how weddings in my family go.

I’ve never heard of this either, but it sounds like it will be a beautiful and intimate moment for the two of you!

I LOVE that Eric Benet song! So sweet and perfect for your wedding–one of my personal, sappy favorites.

What an AWESOME idea!! And, llllooove that Eric Benet song. I’ve had that in my “wedding playlist” for a while! It’s funny though because “I’m Yours” is actually on our “do-not-play list” — haha! There’s a Hawaiian-ized cover of it that we hear, and both versions are soooo played out here that we are sick to death of that song. I loved it the first few times I heard it though!

Awesome, I’m so glad that others will be doing this! :)

@littlemissmango: HAHA! To me, “I’m Yours” is overplayed too, but Mr. E is a big fan of it (I don’t think he listened to the radio much so he didn’t hear it every hour on the hour) so I wanted to work it in somewhere.

Miss E, we’re looking at doing this too! It’ll give them time to prepare our send off (hopefully with the sparklers, haha) and leave us to enjoy the last part of the night together.

Gorgeous!!!

This is a beautiful idea. I’ve never heard of it before but I just love it! It almost makes me wish I wasn’t having an outdoor wedding and reception. But it’s still a beautiful idea. I will try and incorporate it into our wedding somehow.

That is awesome. We photographed a wedding where the couple were the last to leave and enjoyed their private last dance. One of the most beautiful moments of the night!
