About Ms. Sloth

The Girls!

December 20th, 2010 @ 12:15 pm by Ms. Sloth

I’m not talking about the girls in my bridal party. I’m talking about THESE GIRLS:

The Girls! : wedding philadelphia undergarments Girls1

What girls, you ask? That’s just me, you say? Well, let me zoom in closer. I’m talking about THESE GIRLS:

The Girls! : wedding philadelphia undergarments Girls2

You’re welcome!

Yes, this is a post about my boobs. Or, rather, it’s about finding something to hold them up on our wedding day. I’ve mentioned before that my chest is very large. Finding an everyday bra that offers comfort and support is quite a task. Finding a strapless bra to wear with my dress? I think that it might a challenge worthy of Hercules. And I’m not looking forward to that task.

I own a regular strapless bra, but it offers pretty much no support. It helps keep the girls in, but not up, if you know what I mean. It will be pretty useless under my dress. I’ve even considered going braless and hoping that my dress fits well enough to keep ’em under wraps, but a girl’s wedding is not the time for nip slips.

I suppose that my best bet is a long line bra, like one of these:

But I’m wary. To me, these bras look, at best, constrictive and uncomfortable. At worst, they look like medieval torture devices.

So, hive, I turn to your expertise once again: can anyone recommend a comfortable long line bra for a large-breasted gal? One that breathes? One that won’t poke me with ribbing? One that won’t cut into my muffin-top to make it look muffin-toppier? One that doesn’t cost a fortune?

Help me, hive! You’re my only hope!

By the way, in case you were wondering what the first image result is when you Google “bra,” it’s this:

Once again, you’re welcome!

Bwahahahaha bacon bra! Love it! And I am in the same boat as you, so I can’t wait to see what people suggest!

Rofl @ the meat bra. I know this sounds strange, but the women of my family also have larger bosoms (I am on the smaller end), and my mom swears by the stripper/exotic lingerie shop. They carry all sorts of contraptions for managing large (real and enhanced) boobs and have a helpful service staff who know the products.

Now, I’m not exactly sure how you’d find one of these shops without some potentially hilarious phone-calling and trial-and-error, but maybe it is worth a shot?

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Goddess longline bra.

(this is not where i bought mine, but just the first link i came across: http://www.herroom.com/goddess-689-lace-longline-bra.shtml)

i’m a 44FF and they kept me in and up all day. I wore a strapless dress for my wedding and didn’t pull or tug at it at all. I tried on about 25 different longline strapless bras before FINALLY deciding on this one. (thats a lot of online ordering and returning…)

I did spend some time before the wedding just wearing it to kind of break it in. But I just likened it to a pair of shoes. I wouldn’t wear a new pair of heels for a 8 hour event, why would I do the same for a bra?

Best of luck in your search!

OMG, the bacon bra is the best! Everything is better with bacon!

Seriously though, I have some girls myself and strapless bras are always a challenge. The long line bras can be comfortable. Just get the right size and don’t freak if they give you “cone boobs”. It will look ok with the dress. Surprisingly.

Oh girl, I understand the troubles of large boobs! I have a wonderful strapless bra that I got from Lane Bryant of all places! Its even the plung neckline type, stays up good and its actually decently comfortable! If you go to LaneBryant.Com, look for the Cacique, then specialty bra, and finally BRA6 Convertible Plunge Bra. It comes with detachable straps as well.

i’ve been wondering the same thing. i want something that holds me in and also pushes up a little..not like i need alot of extra push but these things are heavy! and a regular strapless bra, like you said, holds them in well enough but does not help in the perkiness department…preferably something that isnt going to bruise my ribs…i will be following these responses! after reading this the only thing that came to mind was something my aunt use to tell me while brushing all the knots out of my hair “it hurts to be beautiful”

I have a small ribcage, so I have a hard time finding a strapless bra. I went to a specialty bra store, and got fitted, and the strapless bra they found for me is comfortable enough to wear on a regular day. Although going to a specialty store is expensive and a little weird, because the sales lady sees you in the bras, it is worth it for the experience of the sales people.

I’m amply boobed myself (though not quite so much as you, I don’t think) and you know what really helped when I had to wear a strapless bra in a friend’s wedding? Body glue. I bought a new strapless bra with a really good, strong band/underwire, got the bra into position, then used body glue to adhere the tops of the cups to my skin. Worked like a CHARM. My boobs stayed in a nice upheld state all night–no stepping into the bathroom every thirty minutes to haul your strapless bra up from your waist while cursing it to hell!

bahahahaha that bacon picture. LOVE IT!
im a size 3 small t shirt girl, with size 34D boobs, so id say I got enough boobs to have to worry about keeping them up. the first bra you showed, it actually doesnt feel constricting, they stay up, surprisingly it worked like a charm and its comfortable. Im wearing one with my strapless wedding dress

I’m pretty big busted (32G/H) and found a torselette that is actually pretty comfortable. It’s longer than the average longline but not quite a merry widow (which I wanted but couldn’t find one with large enough cups for a small rib cage) so it gives me even better posture, and smooths out my stomach.

There are some great shops in Philly and Baltimore that cater to the larger busted. I personally recommend Necessary Secrets in lutherville, they have an in house seamstress to make sure your bras fit perfectly. Once you get fitted however, do check out figleaves and bravissimo online as they can be cheaper sometimes.

I was debating on that for ages too, but turns out my corset dress, kept the girls in and up! So I could go braless in public — awesome!

Just a note, as some with a short toroso, but big boobs. The boning in the longlines bend out when I sit down. Hence I have a well structure gut and ultimately droopy boobs. I haven’t found the right solution yet for my dress either, but hopefully something will work.

Oh man, this is a great post. My ridiculously expensive 3/4 one from DB was terrible - no support and gave me a boob muffin top like no other. I can’t really help except to tell you not to buy from DB! P.S. I wound up taking mine off after the ceremony ;)

Thanks so much, everyone!

@Mrs. Glasses: I can TOTALLY see myself taking it off halfway through the night. The first thing I do as soon as I get home from work is take off my damned bra!

Go get professionally fitted! (and I’m not talking about Victorias Secret” fitted.) If you’ve never gone to a lingerie store and gotten measured, you really should! Most women aren’t wearing the correct size bra, which makes wearing one even MORE uncomfortable.

It was the best thing I’ve ever done. A lot of professional bra shops will do a free fitting for you, and will give you suggestions on what type of bra to wear under your dress. Call around and make an appointment somewhere. The prices aren’t as scary as you might think, either. They are just about the same as vicki’s would be.

You will feel SO much more comfortable if you get one that is exactly the right size for you. :)

Another short-waisted well-endowed lady here. Add my plus size to that and you have a recipe for disaster. I am totally wanting to check out that place in Lutherville now though. I love it when the locals have suggestions!

Okay, that last photo = whoa. Talk about an unexpected image right there! :) As a woman with the exact opposite problem (boobs hardly large enough to fill a dress), I’m not at all helpful, I know. But I just had to comment on the bacon-bra photo. Again: whoa.

Thank you for this post. I have the same question and will be watching this thread to hear the expertise! As a 32F with a sweatheart neck line dress with cap sleeves, this will be a major project in 2011.

Also, how to you ensure that it will fit under your dress without bringing my dress everywhere? Don’t most places have a no refund/exchange only policy on undergarments??

OMG. Bacon bra is out of control. I’m not large-busted at all, so I can be of no help. But I had to comment.

Yiiiiikes! Bacon bra! Um, eep. *tries to clear mind of that image*

As another well-endowed woman… I feel your pain. Ugh. I can’t remember if your dress is a corset dress, but if it is… well, mine has so far done a great job of holding them in and up. I’ve seen recommendations for having cups sewn into the dress, and that’s probably going to be the option I take.

I’ve worn long-line bras as a bridesmaid and with other fancy dresses, and my experience has been that they feel fine for the first hour or two, and then they start to poke the underarms, get progressively more painful, and of course start to loosen and slip down… requiring hauling up on a regular basis only to start poking and stabbing again. The relief at removing such a garment is incredible. Since I don’t want to be yanking/pulling/in pain during my wedding, I’m opting out of that.

But if you are going with a longline, find a specialty lingerie shop and go in and be professionally fitted. Some shops will even do custom tailoring on a bra to make it fit better. I did a quick search and found this place, Coeur Inc: http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/profile/8949613/philadelphia_pa/coeur_inc.html

Aside from a specialty shop, the retail place I’d recommend most is Nordstrom. They carry more sizes than most department stores.
