A Sock is a Bridge

December 21st, 2010 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Waffle

Wedding photos of men wearing fun socks always makes me smile. Then again, men wearing any sock that is not a white gym sock make me smile. Waffle appropriately wears dark socks with his trousers, and this makes me grin like a crazy person. For some reason, this made me think he would be a perfect candidate for fun wedding socks. I suggested this idea to him.

His reply…”No.”

I thought maybe I had approached the subject incorrectly. Aha, I need a visual aide! That will help. I showed him a bevy of wedding-sock and  -shoe photos.

His reply…”No.”

While we were at the mall yesterday, I thought I would make one last attempt at the sock issue before letting it die. A full on sock ambush!

His reply…”A sock should be a discreet bridge between the trouser and the shoe. Nothing more.”

Guess I can’t argue with that.

Have you made any fashion requests of your SO that have been shot down?

Hi, sorry this is unrelated to your story about socks but I am wondering what SO means? I have been trying to figure it out and I cant! Lol.

Significant Other
Haha! That’s awesome! A very British piece of fashion advice. One my FI would heartily agree with…

SO means significant other.

I bought colored socks for the groomsmen - mint green with his dark grey suit, dark purple with the groomsmen black suit. It was subtle, and but they got compliments on it! It was like a slightly fancy bridge. We didn’t take any overt pictures of it, but the photographer got some as they got ready that were cute.

I love this line: “A sock should be a discreet bridge between the trouser and the shoe. Nothing more.” Gotta love a guy who sticks to his own fashion rules!

I really wanted the groom and groomsmen to wear gray suits. But the boy says, “No! Not classy.” I put together pictures of great looking wedding parties with the guys in great gray suits - but then he took offense that I don’t trust his fashion ideas and that mine are always right. Ooops! I laid off after that. Although, I’m gonna try to push fun socks and chuck taylors!

I once told my FI that he didn’t have to wear a tux and if we were doing something informal that I didn’t want him to…He went nuts. I though I was being good to him by not forcing him into some penguin suit that he would be uncomfortable in and he wasn’t having it. He wants a tux and his groomsmen better be wearing tuxes too. He said he doesn’t get to dress up very often and that I can’t deny him this chance… If only I haven’t seen so many beautiful weddings where men are in suits or vests.

I brought it up to my FI but I made a HUGE deal out of it, so he HAD to say yes lol…I said his socks had to match whatever color shoes I end up wearing because I HAVE TO HAVE a picture where he lifts up his trousers and I my dress lol…try that argument maube it’ll work for you too ;0)

That’s hilarious! Mr. Cardy is SO excited about the argyle socks we got for all of the guys…but he has a weird sock obsession. :)
