As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Arboreal Aspirations

December 21st, 2010 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Panther

Mr. Panther and I are in Connecticut this week for the holidays, and we’re so happy to spend time with my awesome uncle, Papo. As I’ve mentioned before, my uncle has always been like a second dad to me, and since I lost my first dad, he’s really stepped up to the plate.

Even though he’s crazy-busy, my uncle really wants to build us a wedding arbor. We argued at first—the last thing we want to do is pile more work on him, especially since he’s already walking me down the aisle—but he insists. So, now we’re making plans for a hand-built awesome arbor that we’ll keep in our backyard some day! I already had lots of arbor ideas saved to my inspiration file, so we’ll be working off of those. We know we want wood, and we think we want it to have a flat top with an arch underneath it. Like this:

But all we really care about is that we can hang flowers from it. I’ve had photos from this wedding saved on my computer since April:

We have to have a photo like this:

We like the test tubes, but these little canning jars are so adorable, too!

As far as flowers go, I like the purple allium from the first set of photos, but how gorgeous would little dahlias be? With big dahlias and hydrangeas tied at the corners of the arbor, like this?

Can’t you just picture it?! The key, I think, will be to create a gorgeous hanging flower backdrop without blocking the view of the water.

Is anyone else all about arbors? Got any good hanging flower inspiration photos to share?

Ooooh, we had an arch with flowers all over it but it didn’t look nearly as rad as these!

Wow, that is really generous of your uncle to build you an arbor! The inspiration is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see the final product. I was in Connecticut today and had a moment where I really wished I had your number!

The dahlias are gorgeous!!! But with a July wedding beware they will NOT last long in the heat. They are a cooler weather flower. They would need some kind of water source and need to be put onto the arbor at the very very last minute.

An older family friend built our arbor for us, and we could not have been happier with it. It was really beautiful and such a meaningful gift. It now sits in our backyard as an awesome reminder of our wedding day.

We only decorated it with evergreen garland but I really love your flower inspiration photos!

We have an arbor at the place we’re getting married at. I wasn’t really all about it, but those hanging flowers are beautiful! Really a great idea. And I love the textured flower combinations you have in mind. No inspiration ideas though, all I have so far is yours. :)

Here’s a pic of the arbor from the venue site on FB if you care to see it.

Where have I been to miss these wedding arbors? They’re gorgeous! I was planning on doing hanging flowers “chandeliers” (single stem, hung upside down) above my reception tables, but these little jars are so cute they may have me changing my mind!
