Did You Say Guinness Chocolate Cake?

December 22nd, 2010 @ 12:07 pm by Mrs. Zebra

Oh, indeed I did. Hearing those three glorious words baked into one delicious and unthinkably amazing sentence solidified who we were going to use as a cake baker after Zeb requested a cake.

Did You Say Guinness Chocolate Cake? : wedding cake providence Cake Cake

Top: One Two Three Four

Bottom: Five Six Seven Eight

Sin Desserts, another one of Rhode Island’s finest little spots was recommended to me by my boss. Armed with my inspiration board above, Zeb, our moms, Sara, and I headed over to a little warehouse bakery one blustery October morning.

It was there that we tasted that sweet, sweet slice of heaven on earth known as their Guinness Chocolate Cake. Hello Lover! After trying all their little cupcakes bursting with flavor we decided the cake would have three different flavors: chocolate chip cookie, Guinness chocolate, and silver pound. The chocolate chip cookie had a thicker almost cookie-like texture which was just pine if you ask this sweet lover. Zeb and his mother really loved the silver pound. However, mmmmm mmmm mmmm, the Guinness chocolate cake was obviously the star of the show. The sweet and bitter flavors mixed so delightfully together that my mouth is watering only thinking about the wonderful goodness.

Obviously, my inspiration board is a little scattered. I wanted to be vague and for Jennifer, the owner, to run wild with her imagination. You can guess that she needed a bit more direction because I obviously hadn’t narrowed down the inspiration enough. What I did like was the mismatched sized layers and the lace detailing to match my dress. She made a gorgeous sketch (I’m not sure if I’m allowed to show you, so you’ll just have to be patient) that I can’t wait to see turned into reality. The layer Zeb and I will cut into will have our favorites combined: a small layer of Guinness chocolate and a small layer of silver pound. The best of both worlds.

Yum.

Did you go with a multi-flavored cake or a single flavored one? Why?

I made Guinness chocolate cake from the designsponge website a couple weeks ago. Best cake I’ve ever made and the biggest hit. Also the best whipped cream and cream cheese frosting I have ever tasted. AND it makes great cupcakes. Fantastic choice! Your guests are going to love you….

I made Guinness chocolate cake last year using Nigella Lawson’s recipe (http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/recipe-nigella-lawsons-chocolate-guinness-cake-079475). It was so tasty!

What a great choice for your wedding cake–it has tons of personality!

Ahhh I picked Sin as well for my cake! We ended up going with two flavors from them!

White chocolate with a raspberry filling and old fashioned chocolate cake with a Bailey’s Irish Cream ganache filling! They seriously have the best cake!
