Mrs. Tartlet's Picture
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
About Mrs. Tartlet

I confess, I’ve been dreaming of my wedding since the ripe age of six. Being a native of Kalamazoo and having gone to undergrad at Kalamazoo College, it was only natural that I’d be attached to the idea of getting married at Stetson Chapel.

Gorgeous, no? Located right on Kalamazoo College campus, this location has sentimental value not only to me and my family, but also to Mr. Tartlet. To go with the stately white pillars and elegant architecture, I had envisioned a chic, black and white affair. Something very Cary Grant- and Grace Kelly-esque:

Shortly after getting engaged, I came across this collection from Chanel that solidified my love for this minimalist color palette:

Stunning. Dramatic. Totally workable with my infatuation with Paris:

That dress? I die. With just a smidge over four months to go, my ideas and visions for the wedding are slowly taking form in reality. Surprisingly, they’re very different from what I initially imagined because of the venue we ultimately chose.

Although we met in Kalamazoo, our relationship truly took roots in the city of Ann Arbor. As such, we started considering venues closer to the city that we’ve learned to call “our” home. Where did our search take us? Stay tuned!

Did a venue jump to mind right after you got engaged? For any of you ladies waiting in the wings, feel free to share your dream venues, too!

There was one that immediately jumped out at me and would have been beautiful. However, it would have led to a very different wedding than the kind we’re actually having. But the real kicker that kept us from getting it was cost..it had been reasonable but they jacked up the prices for New Year’s Eve which is our wedding day.

Wow! The Stetson Chapel is gorgeous! Personally I dreamed of a southern-belle type wedding (I’m from California, go figure!). Now living in Mississippi, I fell in LOVE with a plantation thats not too far from my house. However, the Mr. had other bright lights in mind. Bright lights meaning, VEGAS. OYE! I compromised and we’re getting married in Vegas. However, it will be at a very beautiful hotel not on the LV Strip, with my dream colors and a gorgeous view! Not even close to the southern-belle wedding I dreamed of, but at least most of my friends and family will be able to make it! I think its a good trade!

I live in Ann Arbor too :) We’re getting married in Dexter, though our reception will be in Milford. I’m excited to see the venue(s) you picked!

@sapphirebride: Isn’t sticker shock the worst? We definitely ran into that problem, too, when searching for a venue.
@soontobemrsreeves: I swoon over southern-belle type weddings, too! Vegas weddings are beautiful; my sister was married there and it was just lovely. I agree that its a good trade. :)
@Sarah: Yay for another A2 bee! Where are you getting married? There are SO many beautiful ones in our area.
