Gift registries: they may seem innocent, but in actual fact, they are more like a minefield cleverly disguised beneath a bazillion gift-wrapped gadgets and gizmo’s.
Making the final decision as to where we’re going to create registries has been harder than we anticipated, particularly because our options are a little limited down under. All the traditional big name registries that most of my North American friends frequent don’t apply here—but we do have one fairly big department store called Myer where the majority of couples are content to go zap-happy with the scanner. I feel like they have a monopoly on wedding registries and don’t really shop there on a regular basis, so we’re considering shopping around and creating our registry somewhere a little bit different.
If I’m being completely honest, we don’t even really know what we want to put on our registry.
We’re in that fairly typical modern conundrum of living together before the wedding and being in the process of purchasing and building our own home—so we’re not really in the market for a great deal of your traditional white-goods and furnishings. We don’t want a honeymoon fund or a cash fund, but we are thinking of having some kind of donation or charity option if people decide to go that way. Gifts are such a small part of the day itself, but I want to make sure that our bases are covered in case people do ask questions about generously providing them for us.
Putting all that aside though…there is one thing that I’m craving for and secretly lusting after. It’s also the most expensive item that I can think of, which is why I feel guilty for even considering putting it on our so-far-non-existent registry. What do you think it might be?
Well, if you randomly guessed a KitchenAid, you’d be correct.

I adore them. I have these epic dreams of attaching one permanently to our kitchen bench and suddenly becoming a domestic goddess overnight, all thanks to owning one of those babies. While we were travelling in North America, I even hunted down a Wal-Mart and hoofed it on foot {about a 40 minute walk} to purchase one over there and bring it back to Australia with us. I almost got there too, and I had it in my hands ready to go, until my very clever dad warned me to check and make sure the voltage was comparable between the countries. It wasn’t. I was gutted. So close, but yet so far!
Mr. Jaguar doesn’t quite ‘get’ my fascination with wanting one and the price alone is enough for him to veto it off the registry consideration list. I think for now I’m going to keep on dreaming about baked goods and maybe, just maybe, I’ll splurge on one for myself after the wedding.
Did you have something random that you were secretly hoping you’d receive as a wedding gift?
