About Mrs. French Toast

My Guests No Need STDs.

December 22nd, 2010 @ 4:21 pm by Mrs. French Toast

While our guests were busy filling out the address survey, Mr. French Toast and I dived right into creating our save the dates. In the Chinese culture, there is no such thing as a save the date. Needless to say, my mom wasn’t too thrilled with the idea when I told her we were making cards to send to our guests six months ahead of time to tell them to mark their calendars.

“Wah??? Why? You waste postage! Just call!” my mom said in her broken English, The Joy Luck Club style.

“But Mama, we have another excuse to go on a photo shoot and make cute cards, and also we can use it to share our website!”

“You go ahead, but my guests no need STD.” (I kid you not.)

I wanted our STDs to convey a fun and casual side of us. When I saw this, I knew we had to do it:

With a bribery of dinner, our good friends Di and Trav came along with us for our STD photo shoot. Armed with a cruiser bike, a few chalkboards, and the infamous humping Mokka in tow, we set out to Crissy Field in San Francisco.

It was an overcast morning, so the Golden Gate Bridge was barely peeking through the fog. Nevertheless, Di and Trav were able to capture some wonderful moments for us to use in our STDs.

When you get older and your limbs get stiffer, sitting on a bike and smiling for the camera has never felt more difficult! See that last photo where I look so happy to be sitting in front of the bike? Moments later, I tumbled—HEAD FIRST—onto the ground, which resulted in some scratches, bleeding, and bruises. Nevertheless, this French Toast wasn’t going to let the fall dampen the photo shoot. Next up—the big reveal!

Did you arrange a photo shoot specifically for your save the dates?

Bahahaha! Your Mom’s reaction is priceless! Your photos are adorable–can’t wait to see your Save the Dates!

And, I’m glad you weren’t seriously hurt from falling off the bike. I had something similar happen during our photo session; accident prone Bees unite?

This is too funny, my mum is Nigerian and she said the exact same thing to me. I have a feeling that when the invites go out she will be telling me that there is no need for RSVP cards. BTW, the photos came out lovely. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Haha. Your mom’s comment made me laugh. I can commiserate. We sent out save-the-dates to our Chinese guests and most of them appreciated the heads up on the wedding date, but we did get a lot of comments on the waste of paper and postage. That’s when the proverbial earmuffs come on.

Your pics are so cute, I love the bike idea! We weren’t going to take engagement pics until we decided to go with a photographer who included them in his package so we used those for our STDs. I am SO glad we did, now we have so many beautiful pictures of us that we can use for just about anything.

Yup! The Mr. and I made our sign and hiked out to fields near our house. They turned out awesome!

And my korean mother also didn’t get the need for STD’s. She actually had the exact same reaction as your mom.

My mum said the same thing! Minus the broken English though. :)

We still did ours, and she thinks they’re very cute now. I love your photos! I’ve been thinking about using my cruiser bike in some wedding morning photos…

ohmigosh! Too funny. I haven’t been around WB too much lately, but this post caught my eye!

The STD featured uses the photos of my husband’s best friends! I helped coordinate the wedding and Mr. LatteLove was a groomsmen!

I loved their shoot–soo much fun (and really reflective of them as a couple)
I can’t wait to show this post to Kylee!
