Mrs. French Toast, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Marketing & PR Fiance's Age and Occupation: IT geek by day, self-proclaimed handyman by night Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Palm Event Center About Me: I’m a city girl at heart who moved to the suburbs a year ago. Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. We’re planning a small winery wedding while incorporating some cultural elements into the day as a nod to our Chinese backgrounds.

Save the Dates: The Big Reveal

December 23rd, 2010 @ 12:37 pm by Mrs. French Toast

Once the photo shoot was done and Mokka was tired of humping, it was time to start on the time-consuming design of the STD card. While I knew how the layout was going to look, we had to play around with colors, sizing, and fonts until the STD was to both Mr. French Toast’s and my liking.

Here is the first round, welcomed by unenthusiastic applause:

It was close but no cigar. We felt that something was missing from the design. A monogram? The colors? We couldn’t pinpoint it yet so, starting again from a blank slate, we let the project sit for a few weeks until the inspiration came.

Then one day while I was browsing Minted, I came across this invitation:

I loved the fun, casual, handwritten font, and the heart that connected to the names was adorable! Unfortunately, Minted specializes in digitally printed stationery and does not sell their artwork files, but I e-mailed them anyway to see what options I had.

I gotta give it to Minted for having the best customer service ever! They got back to me within a few hours and directed me to where I could get licensing info for the exact same font.

Within the next few hours, I whipped out the cards with the new design, and this time it was well received with much fanfare. May I present to you…our STDs!

Ta-da!

Mr. French Toast and I immediately went to our empty fridge to grab a beer, sit down, and give ourselves a pat on the back. Wedding project #1 of 1,367 complete.

Did you unexpectedly receive guidance from a vendor who couldn’t help out but directed you elsewhere, which made your planning even better?

I heart your STDs! (kekeke). We almost went with gray/yellow and if I wasn’t already married I’d be trying to recreate your STD right now!

I actually drew the heart squiggle myself! Since it’s supposed to mimic a handwritten font, it didn’t turn out so bad, eh? :)

You can find the Arsenale font here:

Share with me your designs if you use this font, I’d love to see it!
