Invitation-Inspiration Breakthrough

December 23rd, 2010 @ 11:43 am by Mrs. Waffle

Recently, I had mentioned how not excited, inspiration-less, and bleh I was feeling about the whole invitation shebang. Well, bees, I had a breakthrough. My “aha moment” descended upon me in the middle of The Paper Place.

It all started with a 5 × 7 Envelopments pocket-fold envelope. Here’s an example for your viewing pleasure.

Waffle had mentioned that he wanted to find a way to use one of our engagement photos in the invites. When I saw this envelope style, the blank center panel was screaming to me, “Put your engagement photo here!” Meant to be, I tell ya. Meant to be.

Suddenly, the whole vision of how I wanted the invitation suite to look hit me like a bolt of lightning. I sketched it out for our designer, Mary Lee, and it roughly looked like this.

The idea is to have a 4 × 6 copy of the photo affixed to the center panel and have a single-card invite, RSVP card, and RSVP envelope in the pocket. The messy, scribbly invite header on the first sketch would actually be more like this…

Our letter C will be flanked by hummingbirds holding ribbon being wound around it. Alie suggested the hummingbirds, as we are getting married at the Hummingbird House. Of course, this will look way more fantastic once Mary works her graphic-design magic.

I can safely say I am now feeling much more excited about invites!

This style really spoke to my fiancee and I too. We’re still 15 months away so haven’t done too much yet but we both loved this style. Darn. I was trying to find a link but I thought that by saving my photos with their original names I would be able to search online but it is not working :( Oh well I can’t share the goodness but know that there are other people drooling over this :D

I did something similar and they’re beautiful, but beware of postage. All of a sudden these bad boys can cost you $1.39 to mail… expensive, yes!
