About Mrs. French Toast

But It’s for a Good Cause!

December 26th, 2010 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. French Toast

I’ll be the first to admit that when I first saw a friend wear Toms on a trip to Bangkok, I thought to myself, “That has got to be the ugliest shoe I’ve ever seen.” Then she explained to me the One-for-One mission, where for every pair of Toms purchased, another pair is donated to a child in need. Apparently those were also the most comfortable pair of shoes she’s ever owned and perfect for traveling because they’re lightweight and thin.

Being the sucker that I am, I purchased my first pair of Toms, then got Mr. French Toast a pair, and convinced several other friends to get them as well. My Toms have traveled with me to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Hawaii, but the list doesn’t end there. I foresee many more flights with my beloved shoes. Pretty soon, I’ll be singing the Toms song to the tune of “My Buddy.” It goes something like this…

My Toms

My Toms…

Wherever I go, they go…

My Toms…

My Toms…

My Toms and me!

So imagine my delight when I found out about these adorable hair ties from Emi-Jay that double as chic bracelets. Emi-Jay was started by two teenage girls based in L.A. A portion of each purchase is donated to Locks of Love.

My hair tends to get unruly when the humidity is dense, especially in Asia, so hair ties are an essential item in my luggage. Emi-Jay hair ties are versatile enough to go from the gym to a night out on the town, so they’re definitely coming along with me on my next trip.

I got even more excited when I saw that their Pearl Collection looks a lot like my wedding colors, so I decided to purchase them for my bridesmaids.

Plus, the charity component makes things a bit easier to explain to Mr. French Toast when he sees that I’m shopping. I shoot back with a…“But it’s for a good cause!”

Leaves him speechless.

Works every time.

Like a charm.

Are you more inclined to purchase from a certain company because of their good deeds? Do share!

I felt the same exact way about Toms….from hideous to appreciate of their cause. :)

I still think they’re hideous, no matter how good the cause - then I saw the wedges!! Now I’m hooked, and I love the idea of those hair ties for your bridesmaids!

I do the same thing :). You should check out globalgirlfriend.com, it’s full of awesome stuff made by women and fairly traded.

I think i’d rather just buy a pair of shoes to donate and get cuter shoes!

I love those hair ties! I’m a sucker for buying stuff that’s for a good cause, sometimes too much of a sucker I think! Maybe I should just start buying only what I want, and donate regularly to a charity instead :)

Those are so pretty! And perfect bc I always have a black hair tie around my wrist and these would look so much better!

Initially I really thought the shoes were hideous as well, but they are extremely comfortable and lightweight!

Just as an FYI for those of you interested in buying these, the Nordstrom in our area was offering free embroidery of your initials on the side of each shoe

[...] Miss French Toast mentioned, they are “for a good cause” too! For each pair purchased, they give a pair to a kid [...]

Another option is give to charities in lue of favors on behalf of each guest. I think that’s a better option. Plus, it puts the name out there too.

I’m planning to do that for charity: water. It’s a great organization that gives 100% of its donations to provide clean water systems in 3rd world countries. So each guest would get a message stating that.
