Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

My Stalker

December 27th, 2010 @ 12:08 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Y’all, I have a life stalker.

We’ve never met, but she’s been following me around for as long as I can remember. I’ve mentioned before that I have an unusual last name…well this girl lives in Austin and just so happens to have the same name as I do. First and last.

She first started stalking me when I was about 14 years old. She must be at least somewhat older than me, because she had bad credit back then, and I was constantly getting calls from credit card collectors looking for payments. My parents frequently had to field these calls and let them know that, no, I was not the person they were looking for and that I was only 14 and had never had a credit card before.

Now, that was annoying and it lasted a few years, but it wasn’t a huge deal. A few calls here and there, whatever. I had all but forgotten about her until Mr. Cardigan and I got engaged.

Guess what?

She’s getting married too!

She bought her dress at the same David’s Bridal as me, and I know this because I received a call when they had finished altering her dress. I informed them that I had my dress at my parents’ house and was getting it altered elsewhere, and they were very confused. They soon realized that there was another Amanda MyLastName in the system who was getting married in October.

Well, guess where else she has caused problems for me?

She’s registered at one of the same places as Mr. Cardy and I are! So, many of our guests have pulled up our registry using my name, blindly clicked on the first one that popped up (because, let’s face it, there aren’t many Amanda MyLastNames around) and have become very confused when they see someone else’s registry. Luckily they’ve all figured it out within a few minutes, but it has led to some very confused guests!

To be honest, I’m beyond being annoyed about this—I just think it’s hilarious. Thankfully, she seems to have cleared up her credit because I no longer get calls about her. Also, I’m grateful that she got married in October and may have changed her name, and even if she didn’t I’ll be changing mine in a few weeks! I’ll finally be rid of her!

Have you ever met someone with the exact same name as you?

That’s so funny! In my hometown, all the phone numbers started with 828 or 829. Mine was 828, and there was a girl who had the SAME number except with 829. Her name was Stephanie, too. I can’t tell you how many times someone would call, ask for Stephanie, and then get a very confused response when they struck up a conversation with me. AND, she has one of those Petco Pals cards and she used MY number by accident, so when I forget my card and have to give them my phone number, HER account comes up! Such a pain.

Bahaha, that is hilarious & horrifying! It must feel so good to be rid of her soon ; )

One of my MANY name-twins was accidentally charged my 15-cent library fine last summer & it made my day! Thank you, whoever you are.

Before i got married, there was no one else with my name, so I never had to worry about it. Now that I’m married, I am 1 of 4!! Still not huge, but annoying nonetheless. At least they don’t live near me, and with the middle name added in I am still #1

Wow…what a story! Sorry to hear all that’s happened to you. :/

No, my name is usual enough all around, I’ve never known anyone with my exact first and last name. Though have heard of a few with my first name in my lifetime…

Also, glad to hear you can find humor in it and hope all gets even more cleared up by the time you get married. ;)

Good luck! :)

That is ridiculous! I’ve never had this problem, but my dad has, with the bad credit and everything! He told me that they used to call at all times of the night, badgering him about terrible credit that wasn’t his. Then they moved back to our hometown, and there was another name-duplicate–my mom went to pick up prescription meds for my dad once and was given the other guy’s stuff. Dangerous!
My little brother has a name-twin too, but that one isn’t so bad because he was a very popular high-school football player in the next town over, and my brother would always laugh when his name was in the paper or on the local news during football season. :)

YES!! I have one. She is a few years older than me. And we live within 500 miles of each other. I don’t think we are related though. Funny thing is that she is a school teacher and that is what I am going to school for.

My husband and I found our dopplegangers when trying to register a domain name for our wedding website. We wanted to get http://www.nateandbri.com but found another couple already had it and their wedding was the very weekend that we first looked for it. Not only did they have our names, but they were also geeky comp sci/engineers like us and both Nates play the drums. The only difference was they lived in Minnesota and were REALLY into God, with bible verses strewn throughout the website. We bought a domain name with my full name instead of my nickname and when theirs expired we picked it up too.

I found 2 on FB. They are both younger than me. It’s totally weird for those of us with unique last names right! Now with my new last names there are hundreds of me…kinda sad.

This is too funny. I have a common first name and a not-so-common last name; our family isn’t that big and we know pretty much everyone else with that name. Until I was 15, I was the only person with my name in the entire world. Then my (paternal) uncle married someone with the same first name that I have, so now there are two of us. To make matters worse, she’s terrible and we can’t even joke about it. Sometimes my uncle accidentally sends me texts or emails intended for her. It sucks! But the bright side is, she’s never done anything with herself, so all of the awesome Google search results are still wholly my own :)

I’m currently the only person with my name in the world :) Although when I was in middle school, I had a different last name (before I took my stepdad’s last name) and there was another girl whose first name and last name were only one letter off from mine… we had to call the school so many times because we kept getting each others’ report cards!

My FI’s last name is a lot more common than mine, so there might be a few others after we get married. Not sure though- my name is weird. When we announced our engagement on facebook, someone commented, “That sounds like it might be a made up name. But if it’s legit, then congrats!” *facepalm*

That’s crazy! I have to admit, I’ve been curious enough to google myself and found out that I am the only person in the US with my first and last name combo! Now to find out what happens after my name change… *googling*….Eek! I still get to keep my “only one of me” status. Yay!

I thought that I was the only one….I grew up and went to high school with another girl with the same first and last name. She had a kinda bad rep and when someone said that they had heard of me I had to clear up that I am the blonde one not the brunette one.

Also to add to the confusion my name is Amy “Nunyobuzness”. I had a best friend all through school who was also an Amy, Amy C everyone called her. She grew up and married an unrelated “Nunyobuzness”, so we share the same last name now. I always knew she always wanted to be like me. It’s OK because after I get married I’ll be the Amy C.

That sucks about the name thing. But I grew up having the same first name and last name as a lot of people because my name is very common in Vietnamese. What is even more weird is that I have a relative same first and last name just different middles names. But if Louisiana hadn’t mess up on my birth certificate my name wouldn’t be the same as a lot of people.

No, but my name is unusual as well, my first is uncommon and there aren’t many with my last. I searched my name in Facebook and found a girl in BC with the same exact name as me though.

My FI was sent a friend request by a random stranger on Facebook just last week with his same exact name.

There was a girl with my exact first middle and last name who went to my college, which was small and had about 5,000 students. Luckily we had different student id numbers and majors. It only caused problems for people looking for me on facebook and at graduation time when I went to the grad fair to see if I was cleared for graduation and they said I had already visited them. Which I hadn’t. Whoever talked to the other me didn’t ask for her id number and just crossed the name off the list. Then when I went to pick up my cap and gown they told me I already did. Which I didn’t and had to assure them that there were two people with the same name. I haven’t run into her since, but my name is pretty common….

And I have seen other registries with my first and last name, but not marrying someone with my fiance’s name, so that has been good.

Also I would be annoyed if I was getting harassed by debt collectors, that’s not cool!

YES!
And it’s funny, I sang in a band 10 years ago, and she’s a singer - she would post her fliers in town and friends thought I was back at it, lol
I did make it to one of her shows once, and she called me out.. it was pretty funny
