With This Ring…Bowl or Pillow?

December 27th, 2010 @ 1:03 pm by Mrs. Pancakes

I don’t know when the ring-bowl thing started, but I kind of think it’s adorable. I keep telling Mr. Pancakes that it’s SOO practical even though neither of us takes our rings off before bed. (Yes, Mr. Pancakes has a psuedo- engagement ring of his own.)

Back to the point, it seems like Paloma’s Nest has monopolized the market, and their tasty little treasures don’t come cheap! Now they’ve teamed up with my very favorite calligraphers MMInk to come up with these lovely ring bowls:

{Paloma’s Nest - $52}

Yup, you read that right…$52!!! Turns out I don’t love it THAT much. The good news is that Paloma’s Nest has also teamed up with Anthropolgie to come up with these cute little budget-friendly ring bowls (although they appear to be no longer available on the website).

{Anthropologie - $9.95}

I was totally sold on the ring bowl until I saw this amazing “something blue” ring pillow. I definitely don’t have a something blue yet, and it would be such a great little addition to the day.

{Emerson Made - $68}

Yup, you read that right…$68!! It’s craziness…so I did a little DIY-ring-pillow searching and found two great options:

{Martha Stewart Weddings}

I was thinking that I could do a burlap pillow and a pink-chiffon flower with a little bit of blue ribbon. Then I found this super simple ring pillow. It’s just pleated trim and a little bit of ribbon. I went down to MJ Trimmings to check it out, and it looks like I could put this together for just four dollars!

I was thinking that instead of the pink ribbon I could do a little bit of burlap and a little bit of blue ribbon as my “something blue.”

Now what is this I hear about using fake rings for the processional? Is this true??

I love the idea of a pillow with a flower on it but knew I would never use it again. So I ordered a bowl from Paloma’s Nest with a couple lines from our first dance and date on it. We do not have a ring bearer so I thought it would be perfect for the Best Man to carry and we can use it after! If you wanted something blue, you could always add a blue ribbon to tie your rings together.

I was totally thinking about DIYing a ring pillow too. I feel like these things are seriously overpriced for what they are!

I lurve the ring bowls, but I’m horrified by the price. And even though we’re not having a ring bearer, the bowl would actually be helpful for us because we’re planning a ring blessing ceremony. I speak for the both of us when I say we would die if the rings weren’t tied down and got lost in the midst of it all.

Instead of shelling out $52 for a teeny piece of ceramic, the artsy man of honor and I are going to spend an afternoon DIYing with clay. Egads.

OK & seriously, that last pillow is great and so is the price. Wowzers!

That Emersonmade pillow is adorable and I don’t think it would be too difficult to DIY your ring pillow!

I got a Paloma’s Nest ring bowl, but I think the cost is justified more than fancy pillows because you can reuse the bowl afterward. We now use ours as a christmas ornament, and I could see using it to hold jewelry on a beautiful dresser or something similar.

I would join the Paloma’s Nest mailing list-they just had a awesome sale in November where everything on the site was 20% off. It was amazing-I love their stuff so much.
