Table of Elements

December 28th, 2010 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Prairie Dog

From my original laundry-pile idea, I knew I had to find a way to work in a floral pattern. I knew I could work it into my invitation suite. I could not, however, work it into my bridesmaids’ dresses. So where else could it go?

Then, in perusing dance-floor rentals, I had an idea that is totally on par with my “grandma chic” sense of style. Floral tablecloths.

Specifically, of the peony nature:

I’ve never seen floral tablecloths at a wedding, but I’m always looking for a way to be a little outside of “usual.” So we trekked out to the showroom to see them in person. They are gorgeous—love the colors—but 12 tables covered in florals might be a lot, even for me. Plus, I am almost 95% sure you shouldn’t put floral arrangements ON floral tablecloths. Mr. PD basically made it clear that he is 200% sure. (Being a scientist, he would like it on the record that 200% is an impossibility and is therefore a hyperbole on my part. He does cede, however, that he is 100% sure.)

We opted for plain gray-blue tablecloths, with a floral tablecloth for the cake table and possibly the head table if I’m feeling crazy. Another perk of visiting the rental showroom is that I fell in love with their 12-person table. Like this:

(from my venue’s Facebook page)

I might even mix and match the table arrangements, and this picture made me feel brave enough to go for it:

And finally, it should be mentioned that if I had a LOT of time and a LOT of raw silk, my tables would look like this:

Would you try out floral tablecloths? Twelve-person tables? Mix-and-match table arrangements? Lots of handmade flowers? Any other off-kilter ideas?

Oh I have been thinking about 12 person tables, my family would love it too, since they would get to chat it up before dinner without hoping from table to table (so often ) and we are only having about 60 guests.

Love the 12-person tables! That would have been nice at my wedding - could have done tables with different headcounts to keep social groups together!

You know if you did go with floral tablecloths, you could save a fortune on flowers then. Simple candle arrangements would be gorgeous. V pretty…

What about floral table runners on top of the simple gray tablecloths?

I think floral tablecloths with a variety of candles/candle holders would look so pretty and chic! Great idea!

Go for it! Most of the napkins I’m making are of a floral nature. Why not!

Love the floral tablecloths! Could you do a floral cloth, with solid runner? That would tone it down a bit, and you could do great arrangements of glass vases and jars and old books and candles and things, and not have to pay for centrepiece flowers!

Also, I love that you say you have a ‘grandma chic’ sense of style. I love that style!

Hahaha - Mr. PD cracks me up. I like the floral table cloth - maybe you could do half solid, half print?

So I was on Martha Stewarts website and I saw this and immediately thought of you and this post! They are using a floral table cloth for the table with the seating arrangements instead of for the actual dinner tables but it is inspiration nonetheless!
