Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

Photobooth Props

December 28th, 2010 @ 6:01 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

When Mr. Cardigan and I first decided that we were going to have a photobooth at the wedding, I was pretty adamantly against having any props for it. I’m not quite sure why, but I really just wanted to keep it simple.

However, as we got closer to the wedding I started to think that it might be fun to have at least SOME props for the photobooth. Nothing too cheesy, but enough to liven it up a bit. So, I made our chalkboard and the oh-so-silly mustaches on a stick.

Buuuut that wasn’t quite enough. Mr. Cardigan and I both love the photobooth pictures we’ve seen with people posing with empty fames, so we decided we’d like to include one in our photobooth as well. I was surprised to find that it was much harder than I expected it to be to find a cheap, gaudy, really ugly frame for us to repurpose, but after quite a bit of searching we found something that worked. It started off as one of those ugly, shiny, part gold part black frames that made me cringe just to look at. But after some bright and cheerful spray paint? It looks better than ever!

I reeeeally love how it turned out, and I can’t wait to see the photos our guests take with it!

With a few more small purchases, we have a nice little stash of photobooth props that I think will add just enough life to our photos to make them fun without crossing into overly cheesy territory.

Not pictured here is a really awesome yellow paper umbrella Mr. Cardigan snagged for me at Hobby Lobby (it’s like the umbrellas you put in drinks, but life-sized!) and I forgot to grab our chalkboard, so that should be included as well.

I’m glad we decided to have a few props at our photobooth, and I hope our guests decide to use them!

Are you pro-prop or anti-prop?

Hi!
Are you setting up your photobooth yourself? (Ie, tripod with camera?) or is your photographer doing it for you?

Pro-prop, for sure. It’s a lot more fun when you’ve got something to pose with, and it means the photos you’ll get will be a bit more interesting / different, than if your guests were just standing in front of the camera.

If you don’t mind my asking, how much (roughly) did you spend on the frame?

Pro-prop, for reals. Even if I haven’t started messing with mine yet. (Oooops.)

@utran: Our photographer is doing it for us!
@Hard Hat Purple Boots: It’s a frame from our photographer, so I’m not sure how much it cost. I know Mrs. Pin Cushion made her own photo booth frame, though!

Props, props, props!!! If you need any more, I have a whole stash of crazy stuff. Sometimes freelancing in the theatre biz has its perks. :)

Pro-prop all the way! I need to go thrifting and find a great/ugly frame. I think I want to spray mine apple green.

Clearly I’m in the minority but I’m very anti-prop. Now, the chalkboards and frames are pretty cool but I’m so over the mustaches and feather boas.

We are very pro prop-we scored a ton of silly stuff for people to dork out on :-) We’ll have lots of great pics of people in their everyday clothes during the reception so we like the idea of the sillier ones at the booth. It’ll give everyone who doesn’t like to dance something to do after a few glasses of wine ;-)

I don’t know why, but I’m totally anti-prop for our booth. . . probably because I don’t want the extra work ;-) ahaha.

@Freeze Pops: Aw, thanks! That’s so sweet! And don’t worry, I’m already antsy for recaps and the wedding hasn’t even happened yet! :)
