About Mrs. Socks

On Thursday afternoon, while all of my flower drama was going down, many of my family members and family friends arrived in Philly. My parents picked them up from the airport while we were dealing with the flower crisis. Once everything got settled that we would receive our roses, we had everyone over to our house to welcome them to the area.

We cracked open some wine and were prompted to open the gifts that Grandma and Granddad Socks and Sister Socks and BIL Socks brought.

Sister and BIL Socks got us an ice cream maker!!!

Can you tell I was excited? We’ve made ice cream with it once so far, but I promise I’ll use it more often, Sister Socks!!

Then came Grandma’s and Granddad’s present…

Our furry nephew made the trip with Sister Socks and BIL Socks…hi Hunter!

Mr. Socks was pleasantly surprised to see a leaf blower (or something like that, I don’t remember), but I had to remind him that in the Sock family, usually the box is not representative of what is inside the box.

So what was inside?

A wonderful crocheted blanket that Grandma Socks had made and…

The most beautiful, intricate quilt she had ever made. It’s a tradition of hers to create a “wedding quilt” for each of her grandchildren, and so I had gotten glimpses of this quilt as she was making it over the years. It turned out so beautifully.

It’s amazingly nostalgic because I can look at almost every square on that quilt and remember a dress she made me in that fabric, or a stuffed bunny that she made with another, or even clothes she made my Barbies with others. Other squares are from pieces of quilts she’s made other children in the family, and it means more to me than I can even describe to have such a wonderful piece of my Grandmother and my whole family in one quilt.

Here’s Grandma and Granddad Socks, looking on in pride at Grandma’s amazing work!

We said our thank-yous…

And then Sister Socks and I went out for dinner since she missed my bachelorette, and Mr. Socks had dinner with the rest of the Sock clan for a night of relaxation!

And yes, you will be seeing more of that flannel shirt…I think I lived in it from my bachelorette party through to the morning of the wedding.

That’s exactly what my grandmother gave us too (well, a different pattern and fabric, but the same story and concept!). I LOVE homemade gifts, and it is so special to look back at a piece of work and remember what kind of love made it.

The quilt is such an amazing gift!

My family totally uses random boxes too. We are so used to it, but my husband was horrified (several years ago) to get a gift in a Victoria’s Secret box! He’s just gonna have to get used to it.

I was not aware you had an ice cream maker! I suggest a food date post-haste. I’ll bring the fried wontons, you bring the ice cream!
