Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

I love this time of year…

Probably because I’m obsessed with writing lists and setting goals, and this is the time of year when I’m supposed to do just that. I also like looking back on my accomplishments, writing a “done it” list, and giving thanks for what I’ve come through. I’m always striving to move forward, but sometimes it’s good to sit back, enjoy where you are, and reflect on where you’ve been, which is what many of us will be doing this evening.

We’ll look at 2010, and think, wow, what happened to the time?

It flew by for us, probably because of all excitement. Being engaged has brought about a world of wondrous things; most obviously, planning the wedding; meeting a lot of really talented vendors, learning to make decisions, and of course, becoming a bee.

This last year was great, but I can honestly say this next year is the biggest yet for both of us. The wedding. The honeymoon. Moving in together. Our first Christmas. It’s all just too exciting for words. It’s more than we could have ever asked for or imagined.

Nevertheless, we still plan on doing more. We want to take another trip sometime after Costa Rica. We want to get more involved at our church and in our community. We want to save for our house, and Mr. B is planning to continue his education.

There’s a fat chance I’ll be suffering from post-wedding depression and needing something to fill the void. I’ve been thinking a lot about starting up a small business, working towards a personal training certification, and maybe finally running a marathon.

Many of you are getting married this year, too. But what else are you planning?

I don’t usually make resolutions, but thanks to you, I have now decided to set goals on paper so that I can look back at the end of 2011 and appreciate what’s been accomplished!

Happy New Year! Great to hear your New Year resolutions, they sound like great projects! We want to get married first and then figure out where we want to live (as in, which country). If we manage to successfully do both, I’ll be happy. And, of course lose 20 pounds!
