Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
I’m taking a break in my regularly scheduled wedding recaps to share a recent project with you!
Once the wedding was over, I found myself wondering what to do with all of the “leftovers.” My parents’ house was replete with about 50 centerpiece vases, ceramic birds, and the like. And one of the largest leftovers? My wish tree guest book.
My parents and I had created a beautiful wishing tree out of manzanita branches, spray paint, moss, and a pretty blue ceramic pot. It looked fantastic sitting in the front entryway of Carlouel before our ceremony/reception. See?

But…what to do with it after the wedding is over?

Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica
Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst
Engagement Date: March 12, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Casa Punto de Vista
About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
My dream cake looks something like this…I love the lace applique and the green stripe along the edges. Basically, I love this cake because it’s simple and elegant.

Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago
Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher
Engagement Date: October 23, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club
About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
So, I’m freaking out right now! Ahhhh!!!
I don’t know if you guys know this, but photos were just released from Nicole Richie’s and Joel Madden’s wedding. See? Freaking out! Ahhhh! All of these photos came from Stylelite.com.

Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA
Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager
Engagement Date: October 3, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Oxon Hill Manor
About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
The importance of chairs. <— That is what this wedding has done to me. I’ve resorted to full dissertations on the importance of chairs. Not any ol’ chairs, obviously: chiavari chairs.
Remember our discussion about this? There was quite a wide range of comments from “chiavari chairs were the single most important design element of our wedding,” to “I don’t remember the chairs and our guests didn’t either.”
Well, after my post, I put the chair issue on the back burner. At the time, we hadn’t picked a caterer, a photographer, and there were a lot of other important details to iron out first. Now that those things are done, we’re back to the details, and well, the chairs are center stage.
During the few months we had “off” talking about this, I just assumed we’d get the chiavari chairs when the time came. I figured we’d have SOME wiggle room in the budget, and how expensive could they really be? What? Maybe $3 or $4 per chair, right? Wrong.
Try $7 or $8, which—even for a small-ish wedding like ours—totals nearly $800.
OMG!

Mrs. French Toast, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Marketing & PR
Fiance's Age and Occupation: IT geek by day, self-proclaimed handyman by night
Engagement Date: October 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Palm Event Center
About Me: I’m a city girl at heart who moved to the suburbs a year ago. Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. We’re planning a small winery wedding while incorporating some cultural elements into the day as a nod to our Chinese backgrounds.
I have a confession: I’m glued to my iPhone. Attached at the hip. No, fingers. It’s my go-to source for news, e-mail, music, entertainment…do I need to continue? Whether it’s commuting on the train, eating alone at lunch, waiting for a table at the restaurant, or even prepping for bedtime, my fingers are swiping left and right on the mobile device. I love technology and all the benefits and conveniences it comes with—especially when I’m on the road and feeling disconnected from my family and friends back home.

Create the honeymoon of your dreams.

Mrs. Husky, Denver
Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off
Engagement Date: August 14, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Rancho San Carlos
About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
The ceremony was over, and we made our way to the side yard.

(Mark Hayes Photography)
It had been our intention to have a sort of informal receiving line in the side yard between the ceremony site and the happy hour area. Unfortunately, this was not announced at the end of the ceremony, and I think most guests were confused and just headed straight to happy hour.

Mrs. Waffle, Austin
Age and Occupation: 31, Costumer/Artist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Animator
Engagement Date: July 27, 2010
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Hummingbird House
About Me: My life is pretty much spent in a sea of fabric, paint, sequins and drama. When I’m not working, I play on a trivia team, take Broadway dance classes, read, buy shoes, and occasionally geek out on video games. I am an American girl who loves all things British and Mr. Waffle is a Brit who loves all things American...I guess it was meant to be!
Wedding photos of men wearing fun socks always makes me smile. Then again, men wearing any sock that is not a white gym sock make me smile. Waffle appropriately wears dark socks with his trousers, and this makes me grin like a crazy person. For some reason, this made me think he would be a perfect candidate for fun wedding socks. I suggested this idea to him.
His reply…”No.”

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer
Engagement Date: December 23, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL
About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
December 21st, 2010 @ 10:36 am by Mrs. Jam
Earlier this summer, I was a crabby passenger in Mr. Jam’s car during a long ride to God knows where. Clearly I wasn’t paying attention, but that’s not important to this story. Instead of the oldies-love-child (me) and the classic-rock-die-hard (Mr. Jam) fighting over the radio controls as per usual, I dug through his insanely old and lulzy collection of CDs and found this delicious gem:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student
Engagement Date: May 2, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: The Royal Park Hotel
About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
The year was 2009. About three months before Mr. Tartlet and I went on vacation, we had a conversation that went something like this:
Me: “…so…we’re going to the Caribbean!” Mr. Tartlet: “Uh-huh.” Me: “Are you going to propose to me?” *bouncing follows* Mr. Tartlet: “Um…”

Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX
Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events
About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
We’re right at the three month mark, and things are getting serious. As in…I’m finally starting to get serious. Not that I haven’t been serious about this big shindig before, mind you, but now I just feel like time is of the essence and I have to get down to business. For me, that means putting together the single most important document of the wedding (aside from the marriage license)…the wedding timeline, or as we say in the biz, a “minute-by-minute” or “script.”
As the name suggests, the minute-by-minute is the detailed framework for how the day should run…down to the minute. It basically tells everyone involved where they’re supposed to be when and what they’re supposed to do when they get there. Think of it as the choreography for the event. With my work events, I find that thinking through the script and putting it on paper reveals where there are holes, potential issues. or staffing concerns. It’s super helpful to give the printed document to everyone staffing an event so that everyone is on the same page, and it’s typically my go-to document during an event to keep things running on schedule. Of course, nothing goes perfectly to plan, but having a plan is the most important part. And the Hippo wedding wouldn’t be complete without its own event script. I’ve started working on ours, and it’s been way more complicated than I ever imagined.

Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, Alberta
Age and Occupation: 26, Stage Manager
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre Technician
Engagement Date: June 22, 2010
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Calgary Opera Centre
About Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
We spent about 45 minutes at the ruins, then we hopped in our cars and drove to our home. I’d thought about doing a shoot in our kitchen, with brownies or muffins or something. But in the end I decided that our kitchen is just too terra cotta, and I didn’t want that immortalized.
Cinnamon Buns also wanted to get photos of us in front of our bookcases, cuddling on the couch, drinking tea, playing Wii…all the things we do normally when we’re at home together. Once again, all photos in the post are by Fotograffika.

We both changed into some of our favourite comfy clothes.

Mrs. Knitting, Toronto
Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate
Engagement Date: October 2009
Wedding Date: December 2010
Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
We’re off on our cozy Christmas honeymoon tomorrow, but I just wanted to stop by and give you a little preview of the Knitting wedding. It was a fantastic, personal, vintage, and very cozy wedding and I can’t wait to share all the details with you.
Proof that we survived our (freezing) outdoor photo shoot with the incredible Josh Levinson:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer
Engagement Date: December 18, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Glendale Lyceum
About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
I’m 24, but my love of antiquing puts me closer to age 64. I don’t even care. A Saturday morning amidst oldies XM radio, rifling through treasures and junk? Sign me up. If you’ve never done the antique thing, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re someone who likes the hunt in shopping. It’s like the TJ Maxx of really old stuff.
Anyway, in my antiquing endeavors, I gravitate toward brooches like a grandma to an early-bird dinner. I have one on the lapel of almost every coat I own, and I was running out of things to do with them. SO, today’s craft session is one-of-a-kind accessories for the bride or maids—for the wedding or for the rehearsal/bridal shower/everyday life.
