We’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading real Weddingbee brides’ experiences with their vendors via the Weddingbee Vendors section! A while back, we launched Featured Reviews from the Hive, a new feature that allows you to share your favorite vendors right here on the front page! We’ve loved all of the great vendor reviews coming at us.
Currently, we’re regularly featuring your favorite vendor reviews that you write and submit to us. Every Friday we’ll randomly select a featured reviewer that week to win a prize from our Weddingbee Favors Shop!
This week’s prize is one of our most popular items in the shop: A Monogram Purse Valet with the monogram of your choice!
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MIAge and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research FellowFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical StudentEngagement Date: May 2, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: The Royal Park HotelAbout Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
Hello, lovelies! A shocked and ridiculously excited Miss Tartlet here, still in disbelief that I’ve been given the privilege of being the newest bee. I’ve been an avid Weddingbee reader since getting engaged back in May of 2009; I’ve wistfully watched many bees come and go and drooled over many an image and DIY project that you’ve posted to the boards. I’m normally a more behind-the-scenes kind of gal, but all of that changed on a chilly Michigan morning when I received my acceptance e-mail from Mrs. Penguin!
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
After the love letter and wine box ceremony, we moved onto the heart of the civil ceremony. Recall that we had written the first draft of our vows as gifts for our last dating anniversary a couple months before our wedding. Again, here’s the script for you with my thoughts and notes in parentheses.
Now, Mr and Miss Hot Wings will exchange the vows that they have written to one another. Read more…
Mrs. Waffle, AustinAge and Occupation: 31, Costumer/ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, AnimatorEngagement Date: July 27, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Hummingbird HouseAbout Me: My life is pretty much spent in a sea of fabric, paint, sequins and drama. When I’m not working, I play on a trivia team, take Broadway dance classes, read, buy shoes, and occasionally geek out on video games. I am an American girl who loves all things British and Mr. Waffle is a Brit who loves all things American...I guess it was meant to be!
I asked, and you responded loud and clear that cake toppper #1 was the best! Here are a few examples of what I’m ordering to refresh your memory and because I just can’t get enough.
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati
Age and Occupation: 24, Program CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical EngineerEngagement Date: December 18, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Glendale LyceumAbout Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
Most of the things I own would not be considered “modern” or “trendy.” I tend to err on the side of old-fashioned with my sense of style—in clothes, in home goods, in anything. So, yes, I have worried about my wedding becoming dated in a few years. I like that my venue, my dress and accessories, and even my planned hairstyle aren’t really “modern.” In fact, I’ve subconsciously been shooting for a wedding look that is timeless.
But really, my friends, that is crazy talk, and I need to get over it. We’ve gone from this:
(I would 100% wear this dress. But not the doily hat.)
Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, AlbertaAge and Occupation: 26, Stage ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre TechnicianEngagement Date: June 22, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Calgary Opera CentreAbout Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
Well, hive, I showed you the sneak peek of our engagement photos that our photographers gave us a little while ago. A few days ago we picked up the entire DVD of images! I was amazed—we got 150+ images out of about an hour of shooting! We’ve booked Fotograffika for our wedding with two shooters, and there was an engagement session (with one photographer) included in the package. I talked a little about our choices for locations—we decided on the ruins, and then our house. To keep these posts a reasonable length, I’ve split up the locations into their own posts. No promises on length, though—I wish I could share all 153 photos!
Mrs. Oyster, DallasAge and Occupation: 30, Music TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 46, Art TeacherEngagement Date: January 9, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: The Tower ClubAbout Me: I'm a Texa-Californian with a penchant for sparkly things and a tendency to think a lot. I've been known to sing random songs or dance when there is no music on. My fiance and I love world culture, we love to travel, and we have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with our family & closest friends. We're planning an “urban black-tie” wedding and hope to incorporate our personalities and some of our own interests. We look forward to a life of love, laughter, good music, beautiful art, and to creating our home together with our four (!) cats.
When I first came to Weddingbee, I mentioned that I have four cats—and it’s true! I live with Mr. Oyster and four completely crazy adorable cats.
I have only had one pet in my life, and that’s my little cat Patience. We think she’s about 14 years old. She arrived on my doorstep right around the time I graduated high school, and that’s how I ended up getting my very first pet at age 17. Isn’t she gorgeous?
Ms. Sloth, PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion BloggerFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design AdminEngagement Date: December 25, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Bartram's GardenAbout Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
Mrs. Trail Mix, New YorkAge and Occupation: 26, PE TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA StudentEngagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow SchoolAbout Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
We whipped through our portraits in about half an hour, anxious to get to the cocktail hour, where delectable appetizers, champagne and our loved ones awaited us.
Finally, Kelly declared us finished and we headed to the tent, traversing through rough terrain that included puddles, mud and rain galore…
I basically held my dress up like in the photo above for the entire reception. Siiiiigh…I should’ve gotten one of those loop-things sewn in like Mrs Seashell did! Read more…
Mrs. Jaguar, SydneyAge and Occupation: 27, Primary School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT ConsultantEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Curzon HallAbout Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
Have you ever made a decision about your wedding that ultimately came back and kicked you up the butt? I have. And it did.
It was in that post-engagement glow period, where all I wanted to do was tell everyone! make decisions! book the entire shindig!—all in the space of about a week. I was so far away from friends and family while we were in England that I was itching to share all of my big plans with anybody who was willing to listen. (And even some who weren’t willing to listen, if you know what I mean.)
One of the first things I wanted to do was to choose my bridal party. Before I was even engaged, I knew that I’d be asking my bestie, Miss K, to be my Maid of Honour—it was a given. But as for other bridesmaids? I wasn’t sure. Newly engaged bees, this is where I give you some advice: don’t pick your wedding party too early. It’s common sense for most people, but from personal experience, I know how tempting it can be to go with the moment and get busy asking straight away.
Mrs. Jam, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural EngineerEngagement Date: December 23, 2009Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, ILAbout Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
Even though lots of our wedding details are, ahem, up in the air (to say the very least), there is one thing we thought we had nailed down: The glorious honeymoon.
Mr. Jam and I had it in our heads that we wanted to spend a few weeks traveling around the lovely United States on a road trip of sorts. Europe would be terrific, but why go out of the country when there is so much deliciousness in our continental backyard?
He constantly talked about Yellowstone National Park and nature (which I was shockingly excited about), and I have been living my whole life wanting to visit the Southwest, specifically New Mexico. And I also have been sort of dying to make a stop at a sustainable community, or go to Burning Man, or sit on some rocks on the Pacific coast and gaze stoically into the water as the sun sets and dolphins and whales jump under rainbows. And then the cast of The OC throws us a beach bonfire and we snuggle up in sweatshirts and quilts and listen to some hippie playing acoustic guitar until the sun comes up.
In short, Mr. Jam and I wanted adventure and exploration, not relaxation and all-inclusiveness. And what better way to travel the US than in a rented RV or trailer?!
Mrs. Plaid, AustinAge and Occupation: 26, Pastry ChefFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry CarpenterEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Kindred Oaks, GeorgetownAbout Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
It was finally time for my beautiful bridesmaids to put on their dresses and for me to become a bride! This part of the day is definitely told better by pictures, so here we go! (This is a super heavy picture post.)
