Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA
Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager
Engagement Date: October 3, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Oxon Hill Manor
About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
When my post went up yesterday asking for help in choosing a honeymoon destination, I had no idea that we’d make our decision that day, just as all of you were leaving your comments.
We couldn’t help ourselves, though. Telling all of you about our choices got us really excited and motivated to make a move.
It was a tough call, but spur of the moment we decided to go to Costa Rica and booked a week’s stay at Oxygen Jungle Villas. That means we’re going to be staying here:

Engagement Date: May 8, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Vandiver Inn
About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
December 30th, 2010 @ 2:52 pm by Mrs. Lox
After we got engaged, Mr. Lox and I were just kind of confused. You would think that having both done this before we would have been more prepared. Alas, you would think wrong. What really happened was just…well…confusion.
We had to figure out exactly how we wanted to do this thing. And then we had to figure out when. And somehow, both of our experienced selves believed we had time to make these decisions. We were utterly unprepared for what would happen next. (And yet somehow I think all of you are going to see this one coming. Shame on us!)

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student
Engagement Date: May 2, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: The Royal Park Hotel
About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
The first bridal event I went to with BMs Laura and Tanya was the annual Bridal Expo in Novi, Michigan. There were gorgeous tablescapes, fabulous flowers, nommy cakes, and Chiavari chairs to sit on at every turn.

Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot
Engagement Date: February 21, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery
About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
Early on in the wedding-planning process, Mr. Jelly and I decided that we were going to do a “first look.” Neither one of us is very superstitious, we didn’t want to miss our cocktail hour, and we thought that seeing each other pre-ceremony would be a great way to shake off those wedding day nerves.
Right before we went outside to do the first look, our photographer, Cliff, asked me how I wanted to set it up. Me waiting, and Mr. Jelly walking up behind me, or the other way around? Quite honestly, I was caught off guard by this question. I hadn’t really given it any thought, and I had major bride brain going on so I asked Cliff what he thought was best. He suggested the me waiting, Mr. Jelly walking up to me setup, because it wouldn’t require me to move around in my dress. This made sense to me, so I went with it. It was only later that I realized that probably 90% of couples do it the other way around, because—duh!—the bride’s whole ensemble remains a surprise when she walks up to the groom. In our case, Mr. Jelly already saw the back of my dress before he saw me. Now, before you think that I’m complaining, I’m not—I really love our first look pictures, and I also love that they’re a little more unique. I just wish I’d given a little more thought to our setup before the actual wedding day.
Anyway, enough rambling…on to the photos!

Fiance's Age and Occupation: IT geek by day, self-proclaimed handyman by night
Engagement Date: October 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Palm Event Center
About Me: I’m a city girl at heart who moved to the suburbs a year ago. Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. We’re planning a small winery wedding while incorporating some cultural elements into the day as a nod to our Chinese backgrounds.
Aside from being beautiful, what do these ladies have in common?

Mrs. Starfish, Boston/Newport
Age and Occupation: 25, Operations Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales
Engagement Date: October 8, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: The Atlantic Beach Club
About Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.

The bridesmaids got an amped up version of the OOT bags. Unfortunately they weren’t all the same because the J. Crew outlet only had five bags when I first purchased them. Sister Starfish was with me when I found them and said she wouldn’t use it and didn’t think Bridesmaid A would either, so I purchased the 5 for the other girls.

Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica
Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst
Engagement Date: March 12, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Casa Punto de Vista
About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
As I mentioned, we took our e-photos out at Fort Tilden, which is an abandoned military fort right on the beach, so not only did we get to play in the water but there were all these cool old buildings to shoot in.

Mrs. Eggs Benedict, Seattle
Age and Occupation: 29, Attorney
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Attorney
Engagement Date: December 5, 2009
Wedding Date: February 2011
Venue: IslandWood
About Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
(Two puns in one title? Yeah, I couldn’t resist.)
I’m a BEE!!! That was all I could think when I opened Mrs. Penguin’s email welcoming me to the hive. Not at all original, I’m aware. Though, as my sister reminded me when we were discussing invitation ideas, unless I want to attach a scroll to a dove and release each one in a recipient’s front yard, any idea I have has probably already been done before somewhere.
In any event, Mr. Eggs Benedict (hereinafter Mr. Eggs, Mr. Bene or some variation of the same) may or may not have gotten an earful as soon as I emailed and called him to tell him the good news. Even more serendipitous, I think, I was spending the day with my mom and sister finishing up our invites when my phone buzzed with the email.

So, who are the Eggs Benedicts who are crazy enough to get married in the Northwest in the dead of winter?

Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, Alberta
Age and Occupation: 26, Stage Manager
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre Technician
Engagement Date: June 22, 2010
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Calgary Opera Centre
About Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
After getting engaged, there were a few things about myself that I realised I didn’t want immortalized in wedding photos. Now, I’m not talking about getting a nose job or liposuction, just little things that I’d been meaning to change anyway but never got around to. One of the first ones was my forehead.
Now, we all had zits in high school, didn’t we? (Please tell me we did.) All the hormones and crap food we ate on the sly are not a good thing for one’s skin. I never had actual acne, but my forehead was generally red. The thing was, it never went away. I’m coming up on 10 years out of high school, and while most of my face was fine, until recently my forehead was generally red and angry, even if I just brushed it accidentally while getting dressed. And while there weren’t actual zits, there was this…texture? Red, bumpy, and angry was how I described it. I didn’t particularly think about it too often anymore; I had just come to accept that some people have pale skin, some have dark, some have smooth, and I had pale, bumpy skin. It always seemed oily to me, so I bought oily skin cleansers, and I didn’t moisturize often at all because why would I put more shiny on something that’s already shiny?

Not too red in this photo, for once, but certainly not smooth!

Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta
Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney
Engagement Date: August 29, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining
About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
We have now entered the double digits in our wedding countdown! We’ve started to get a lot of logistical questions from our guests, like where to stay in Atlanta, when to fly in, etc. Items on our to do list are slowly being checked off. The wedding is starting to feel real, and I’m starting to feel productive; but the anticipation and the excitement really started to build when I got this in the mail the other day:

It’s an invitation to my bridal shower! Squeeeee! You may remember from Sister Lioness’ fabulous guest post that my shower is going to be “mad tea party” themed.

There are so many things I want to rush ahead and tell you, but we have time for all of that, don’t we? Today is time for some backstory. So today we talk about the ring.
Incidentally, I am thrilled to be engaged. But a little part of me (probably the same part that wants to be 15 again…it’s really little) is sad that I can no longer put my hands up when all the single ladies are called to do so. Oh Beyonce, how I love you. But he did, in fact, put a ring on it. So let’s move back to that. It’s an amazing story that I’ve written for our wedding website and am now going to shamelessly gank for Weddingbee. Please note it is all true and, alas, incredibly representative of who we are as individuals and together. So here we go…

Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RI
Age and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family Therapist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical Engineer
Engagement Date: September 3, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: The Glen Manor House
About Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
In the wee hours on Christmas morning, a not-your-everyday sort of email hit my inbox. But the email sat there, undiscovered for hours and hours. Poor thing.
When I finally checked my phone at some point on Christmas afternoon, I walked into the living room where my family was gathered and announced, “WE HAVE THE WEDDING PHOTOS!”
It was like Christmas came all over again. We rounded up the crew, found a VGA cable, wired a laptop to the TV, brewed some coffee and browsed thousands of photos for over two hours. It was awesome. We dubbed Mr. Seashell’s uncle the “Where’s Waldo” of our wedding, popping up in a ridiculous number of photos. We laughed so hard we cried at certain series of shots. We reminisced. We recalled pieces of the day we’d forgotten. We pored over the photos for so long we had to take bathroom breaks.
You want to see too? OK, fine. But I’m not blowing the top on my recaps. Those are coming soon!
