Mrs. French Toast, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Marketing & PR
Fiance's Age and Occupation: IT geek by day, self-proclaimed handyman by night
Engagement Date: October 2009
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Palm Event Center
About Me: I’m a city girl at heart who moved to the suburbs a year ago. Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. We’re planning a small winery wedding while incorporating some cultural elements into the day as a nod to our Chinese backgrounds.
*Flicks my hair, turns my head and bats my eyelashes behind thick, thick glasses*
I’m exaggerating when I say that if you flip to the term “Opposites Attract” in the dictionary, you’d probably find a photo of Mr. French Toast and me next to it.
But truth be told, we really were worlds apart. Although we went to high school together in San Francisco, we were far from being high school sweethearts. In fact, he was a senior with a slight bad-boy twist. And me? I was a lowly sophomore. With thick glasses. And a mushroom haircut. I wish I can say I turned into the hot girl whom all the guys wanted to take to prom a la She’s All That, but who am I kidding? I still am that nerdy girl, minus the mushroom head.

Not fair that Rachel Leigh Cook is cute even though she’s supposed to portray a nerd

Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii
Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter
Engagement Date: October 4, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii
About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

Ms. Sloth, Philadelphia
Age and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion Blogger
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design Admin
Engagement Date: December 25, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Bartram's Garden
About Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
When it comes to fashion, I’m not girlie at all. I prefer edgy to delicate, and I’ve never been a fan of wearing pastels, especially pink. It’s just not my thing.
So imagine my surprise when I was browsing the web and fell in love with what are possibly the girliest, pinkest shoes ever.

Engagement Date: February 16, 2007
Wedding Date: July, 2008
Blogging Since: October 19, 2007
Venue: Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers
About Me: I'm a born and raised New Yorker who loves all things crafty and artsy, food (cheese and dessert!), magazines, and shoes. I'm a power shopper always on the lookout for good deals or great quality-- sometimes I'm lucky and I find both! I love to dance and "shake what my momma gave me" but can also really enjoy a quiet night in with Mr. Canary and a good episode of Seinfeld or curl up with a good book.
All photos courtesy of the amazing Angelica Glass, unless otherwise noted. Please note that the photos have only been color-corrected and not fully retouched.
Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. Canary and I were shuttled off to sign our marriage certificate and to scarf down some hors d’oeuvres that our fantastic banquet manager had intentionally left in the bridal suite so we wouldn’t go hungry. We quickly practiced (which we hadn’t in weeks!) our dance steps for our first dance and hurried off to join our guests for the libations and food.

One of the things our guests raved about was the food! While Mr. Canary and I were upstairs, our guests were greeted by servers with trays of champagne. We were so glad we went with an Abigail Kirsch venue, because the food was top notch!

Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati
Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer
Engagement Date: December 18, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Glendale Lyceum
About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
We Prairie Dogs love to eat. We love to eat all kinds of food. We love a spicy chicken curry with creamy saag. We love hearty gyros with flaky baklava for dessert. We love tangy pad thai with a sushi appetizer. We love delicate crab cakes with tartar sauce and Old Bay. We love crispy onion rings and juicy hamburgers. And pizza. Vegetarian, Hawaiian, meat-lovers’. Carry-out, homemade, and frozen. ALL PIZZA.
So…it might not be a surprise that we haven’t always been healthy eaters. We went through a period where we ate out almost all the time. If we ate in, it was carry-out or frozen pizza or some other delicious, unhealthy mess of food. Eventually we noticed it was taking a toll on our wallets and our waistlines…but perhaps even worse than that, we both just felt uncomfortable in our own skin. Unhealthy.
On our wedding day, I want to feel healthy. A daily cycle of eating choices that take a toll on our bodies…well, that’s not what I want for our life together or for our hypothetical future children.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer
Engagement Date: December 23, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL
About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
December 14th, 2010 @ 9:35 am by Mrs. Jam
A few months ago, I called my mom in hysterics because I had no idea that a few wedding bouquets and flowers on tables could be so darn expensive. And by expensive, I mean OH MY GOD THAT IS A MONTH OF WORKING TO PAY FOR THOSE THINGS.
I learned from watching endless amounts of WeTV that fake-flower bouquets put you on the fast track to wedding disaster (pretty sure I heard it from that sassy David Tutera), but wouldn’t it be nice to save your bouquet? And no, I don’t mean shove it in the refrigerator for all eternity or have it hanging from the rafters of your garage to dry out and flake all over, attracting bugs and who knows what else.
Ew.
Let’s see what we could get if we saved the flowers for the garden, shall we?

Engagement Date: March 12, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Casa Punto de Vista
About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
Around this time each year I watch a lot of wedding movies. I think they provide perfect background noise when studying for exams.
These are my top five favorites:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor
Engagement Date: December 20, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney
Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Curzon Hall
About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
My first experience looking at wedding dresses in the flesh wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped it would be. I was only in Sydney for two weeks, but had one of my bridesmaids in town from inter-state and decided to her them for a peek inside some bridal stores. Two out of my three bridesmaids came along for the ride.
We started off at a small local store, A Bride’s Blessing. You’d think we would have been put off by its slightly cheesy name, but no; it was close by, so we decided to take a peek inside. The girls flicked through the racks of bridesmaids dresses, keeping an eye out on any styles that took their fancy and for either green or grey shades that looked promising. I wandered over to the bridal gown section to flick through, but wasn’t that impressed; most gowns looked like they were in tattered condition (even for floor-dresses) and the selection of gowns were all NOT what I was after. The girls found a few styles that they liked, like this Alfred Angelo number.

Personal photo: My MOH isn’t headless in real life, I promise.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer
Engagement Date: June 27, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu
About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

I loved just about everything regarding our lovely four-tiered and whip-cream covered cake. It was perfect with its scrumptious layers of strawberry shortcake, mango passion fruit, red velvet and chocolate ganache made with light and fluffy sponge cake.

Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA
Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager
Engagement Date: October 3, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Oxon Hill Manor
About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
We finally decided on bridesmaid dresses! Yay! With less than 5 months to go, it was time to come to a consensus, and we did!
Aren’t my friends adorable?

No, you’re not seeing double! They’re twins.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance
Engagement Date: April 2010
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: The Viceroy
About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Mr. Cheetah wants to know absolutely nothing about my wedding day look, so I have to take extra precautions…
