The bane of my existence. I loathe you guest list. Can I let you all in on a little secret? Our room’s maximum capacity is 275. That’s asses to elbows, tiny dance floor, please don’t bump into the cake table, capacity. We would have liked to invite 275 and hope for a luscious 250 to attend but we can’t cut the guest list any more. We’re currently inviting about 295 people. It feels a little bit like playing wedding roulette.

I stood facing my handsome groom with tears in my eyes and a quiver in my lip.

FIL-Husky, also our officiant, welcomed everyone and began by introducing my stepfather to come up and say a few words. I’ve written before about his struggles with Shingles, and we were both so happy he was able to stand and speak to us.

Mrs. Octopus had it right. People are weird about weddings.
I didn’t intend for this to be a negative or complaining post, so I’ll just say that I’ve been really surprised and disappointed in the attitudes we’ve gotten from a few people who are very close to us since we’ve gotten engaged. People are weird about weddings, indeed. And I’ll leave it at that.
But sometimes, people surprise you in a good way. And I was pleasantly surprised and touched over the weekend.
See, I had lunch with my little brother, who is thirteen years younger than I am. He’s actually my half-brother and was four years old when our dad died. Although he’s fairly local, I don’t see him as often as I wish, and while we get along great and love each other, we’re not super close.
He’s a senior in college and he’s a total bro, a dude. He likes partying, sports, and girls, and that’s it. He’s a good guy, but I think his Facebook photos sum up his personality perfectly:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Mr. TM and I threw a little holiday shindig this weekend. In an effort to mimic Martha Stewart’s homemade hospitality, I spent the entire Friday night beforehand baking, crafting, wrapping, cooking, bedazzling, hanging, cleaning and making things by hand.
HA! That’s a joke, my friends. Instead, I went to Duane Reade to pick up a few bags of holiday candy to serve as snacks. (Oh stop, I had other food too. In fact, I actually did bake peanut butter cookies, so boo-yah!)
I made my way to the special “holiday candy” aisle (which is separate from the regular candy aisle…and yes, I know this because I make frequent candy runs to Duane Reade, don’t judge me), found the holiday candy aisle, and picked out holiday-themed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, holiday-themed Hershey’s Kisses and what I thought were holiday-themed M&M’s…
Side note: How come all the candy is Christmas colors? Where’s the blue and white M&M’s for Hannukah? Or um, whatever colors represent Kwanzaa?

After obsessing over our list, scouring online portfolios, requesting pricing/availability and generally over-thinking the entire choice, we decided on a photographer in last June—11 months before our wedding.
In September—8 months before our wedding—our photographer kind of canceled.
We had chosen a husband and wife team (henceforth known as Hub & Wife), and I felt really good about the decision. They had a great portfolio and approach, and I felt comfortable with Hub when I met up with him in Columbus. We put our deposit down over the summer, and it felt great to have it out of the way.
So what happened? The short version is that Hub’s best friend got engaged and announced a wedding on our date. After a lot of consideration, Hub felt like he had to be there. In other words, not at our wedding.
(THIS, my friends, is why you don’t check your personal email during your lunch break at work. Because you can’t guzzle gin at your desk and still work there.)

I’m interrupting my own wedding-related updates to speak out about the new E! Show, Bridalplasty, which I may or may not have auditioned for. Be kind—it was an accident. Read on…
Back in March, as a newly engaged gal with something other than a heart-shaped mood ring on my left ring finger, I went to an open casting call here in Chicago for a reality-TV wedding show.
Now, before you click away in judgment, hear me out: The grand prize was a Hollywood-style wedding at no cost to the winner at the venue of their choice. Now enter the Jams, who happened to be in the midst of house hunting with an already-decided-upon wedding budget of $10,000.
Free divalicious wedding? Let’s just say I had Mr. Jam’s full support. Plus we’re so-obsessed-we-should-be-committed when it comes to reality TV, so I also wanted an inside peek at the goings-on of reality casting so I could blab about it everywhere. Like here!

My save the dates have received several tutorial requests. So here you go, ladies!
To kick things off, I decided on using envelopes that were A10 sized. Armed with this knowledge, I cut out a 9 x 4 sheet of card stock.

It’s that time of year again! Since 2008, the blogging bees have been participating in a Secret Santa where we exchange ornaments or objects in our fellow bees’ likenesses. With a budget of $15, check out what some of the bees have come up with!

We’re getting married next Saturday. Mr. Knitting has to write an exam next Wednesday. Yay, we’re so good at planning. It’s not an easy exam, either. It’s in something complicated like machine learning. At the moment he’s pretty stressed and is studying all the time. He even missed yoga last night (that’s a big deal for him). Still, despite all this stress, and the fact that he’s not too concerned with wedding details, he finds time to help me make things like our programs, table numbers, family photo labels…etc. Tonight when he went back to his lab to study after dinner, he even asked if I needed him to do anything tonight.

I totally can’t believe it, I’m a BEE! To be honest, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the ‘Bee from the beginning. I loved the inspiration and the amazing diversity on the ‘Bee but I hate how awesome everyone was…all the bloggers just seem so organized, creative, crafty and just plain talented! That being said, I’m honored, and excited about being the newest bee.

A little about the Pancakes: Mr. Pancakes was raised in a beach town in California. He loves to surf, scuba dive and spear fish. In fact, he loves all things ocean-related.
Growing up, I lived in Indonesia. There were no blond-haired, blue-eyed surfers in those parts. He was the boy I saw on TV. Much like the cowboy or the astronaut, the surfer was this intriguing being that existed in a far off land.
Fast forward about 20 years and I found myself in the middle of the Pacific as a volunteer teacher in the Marshall Islands. One of my nine roommates was Mr. Pancakes. By the end of the year we were inseparable, so much so that we decided to move to Thailand together.

It’s a funny thing: when I was younger, my dream was to travel the world. I wanted to go to Paris as soon as possible, and spend my life globe-trotting, but that has hardly been the case.
I grew up in Arlington, went to high school in Herndon, college in Richmond, and I’m living in Arlington again. Talk about full circle, huh? Not quite. I do hope to travel someday. I have resolved myself to the fact it might happen later in life. And, hey, I can’t really complain, since A-town is a pretty nice place to live!
We’re right here next to Washington, DC, so we have the best of both worlds: the suburbs and the big city. I love working near the capital because this area has a lot of culture (lots of fabulous restaurants and shops), and we also have a pride about us! Living not too far from the President, it’s no wonder!
I’m not going into all the fabulous things to do in DC (Mrs. Perfume did a good job of that), because to be perfectly honest, I don’t go there very often. I love go try new restaurants in the city, and it’s really the only area where my girlfriends and I party, but my hometown is definitely Arlington!
