Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

Here We Gooooo!

December 24th, 2010 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Hive, I feel like our wedding is actually really truly happening! I mean, I’ve known all along that it was happening, but this afternoon Mr. Cardigan and I are loading up the car and heading to Austin. The next time we see our house we’ll be a married couple!

I think one of the most exciting things about all this packing is finally getting to clean out our wedding closet! You know, that space everyone has that looks like the wedding has completely taken over? Yeah, that’s our extra bedroom closet and it’s been driving me crazy for months now. As of yesterday when I started packing it up, it looked like this:

Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.

Crafting to Christmas Carols

December 24th, 2010 @ 3:05 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

Once our save the dates were done, it was time to package them up. We’d decided to send them out with our Christmas cards. It saves a little bit of postage, and it’s a little like a Christmas present! Is it too self-centered to think that other people might view an invite to our wedding as a present? I, for some crazy reason, decided to make the Christmas cards. Here is what they ended up looking like:

A Second Life for Cake Toppers

December 24th, 2010 @ 12:30 pm by Mrs. Dolphin

As Christmas ornaments!!!

This Christmas, I have searched high and low for a knight ornament for Mr. Dolphin’s alma mater. I even contacted Bunnywithatoolbelt (who made our cake toppers) to make a miniature knight ornament for us, but a custom piece proved to be a little more expensive then I had in mind. Then I thought, why not make our sweet little cake toppers into ornaments?

Guys in Gray Tuxes

December 23rd, 2010 @ 6:19 pm by Mrs. Lioness

We recently started shopping for the guys’ gear and, unfortunately, it’s been slightly more rocky than dress shopping was. We debated between suits and tuxedos for quite some time. Tuxedos seemed too formal for a daytime wedding, but suits seemed difficult to coordinate. We finally decided on a compromise that suited our style, fit our theme, and was easy for nine men in four states to obtain.

We found a gray tuxedo, which seemed slightly less formal than the traditional black, at Men’s Warehouse. We then paired this tuxedo with an ivory shirt. Now, I know the topic of white vs. ivory has been highly debated on the ’Bee. We didn’t go with the ivory shirt because it would match my ivory dress. Frankly, I don’t really care whether the shirt matches or not. We’ll have different shades of white in our bouts and bouquets, so I figure it’ll all come together somehow. I chose ivory because I just liked the way it looked with gray! I think it captured the vintage-but-whimsical look we’re going for.

We’d decided on a look and we’d found an accessible store, but the smooth sailing ended there.

Bee Holiday Party!

December 23rd, 2010 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

For the second year in a row, the lovely hostess-with-the-mostess Mrs Dahlia had us NYC bees over to her apartment for eats, treats and wine at the Bee Holiday Party 2010.

Although I arrived a bit tardy (I had to split between two parties that night, of all things!), I got there in time to taste some of the awesome hors d’oeuvres (bacon wrapped dates! cheese!) and made sure to help Mrs Thimble stuff red velvet mini-cupcakes into our mouths with reckless abandon…

I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Holiday Cards to Our Vendors

December 23rd, 2010 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Brooch

When we picked the month of April for our wedding, it never dawned on me we’d be mid-planning during Christmas. We’ve worked hard to book all the major vendors these past few months, and I have to say I’m extremely excited about our team (photographer, DJ, florist, and caterer).

I have come to really appreciate their work, their ability to negotiate costs, and talk logistics with us; and that’s why I sent them our Christmas card:

While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

Engagement-Photo Tips

December 23rd, 2010 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Tartlet

I’m a planner, and as such I did a fair amount of Internet research before our engagement shoot. Stalking Viewing other people’s photos gave me ideas about outfits, accessories, and poses. There’s a plethora of advice out there on how to prepare for your session, but here are a few tips that we found really helpful:

1. Be true to yourself. If you normally wear flip flops, it probably isn’t a good idea to use this as an opportunity to wear four-inch stilettos. Wear clothes, shoes, and accessories that scream “you.” If you’re comfortable in your own skin, that confidence will translate to the photos. For example, these were our “casual” outfits:

We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.

First Day of Our Lives: The Invasion

December 23rd, 2010 @ 3:22 pm by Mrs. Husky

Mama Husky was so awesome throughout the entire wedding planning process; she was always supportive of my crazy ideas, gave her feedback when requested, and kept her mouth shut when she knew my mind was made up about something. But she did something in the days before the wedding that I have a hard time looking back on. We need some good, fitting music to go along with this:

She sent me this article. If you’re not up for clicking over there, I’ll summarize:

From late August to early October, male tarantulas (!) take over the city of Pueblo (the nearest town to our wedding) for mating season. There are so many tarantulas(!!), in fact, that their invasion has halted construction projects and sporting events. Here, an excerpt:
