Now that it’s 2011, things suddenly seem a little bit more real. This is the year I will be getting married. This is the year that I’ll gain a husband, and he will gain a wife. This is the year that I thought would never arrive—the year that seemed so far away back when we got engaged in 2009. When people ask about our date, our response will no longer be “June…2011.” It will just be June. This June.
I won’t lie: I’ve had some moments of pure panic over the last few months. I’ve looked at photograph after photograph of wedding inspiration, pored over recaps of weddings gone by, studied detailed centerpieces, floral arrangements, invitations—and while they are brilliant for inspiration, they leave me feeling more than a little bit overwhelmed. You see, while I have the BIG things sorted out, getting everything to come together to make one big wedding day-dream is foreign to me. I have absolutely no idea how to make that happen, and it leaves me feeling like a bit of a failure.
So I’m headed back to the drawing board.
We’re going to meet with the venue this month to figure out what will be included, and what I’ll be playing with in terms of interior design of the room. We’ll be (finally!) sending out save the date cards and getting that guest list set in stone, something we’ve been putting off until we had settled back home here in Sydney. We’ll be finalising outfits and getting the bridal party looking spiffy. We’ll be looking at booking our honeymoon—one which is going to be a low-budget and close to home affair, since we were lucky enough to take our pre-wedding-moon in the last month on our way home. And, something which is really important to me, I’ll get to make the final decisions on what projects I’d like to DIY for this wedding. I’ve been holding off for months, not having the time or resources to do anything, so now I’m ready to get crafty…but where to begin? What to do? The possibilities are endless!
So, as you can see, there’s a lot to do. Luckily the wedding isn’t until June, eh? I hope that by tackling one milestone at a time, it’ll make the big picture come together fairly smoothly by itself—or maybe I’m just being too laid back about it all. Either way, 2011 is going to fly by, and I’m so blessed to be surrounded by my fellow bees during this time.
