Mrs. Lioness's Picture
Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
About Mrs. Lioness

Channeling Veronica Lake

January 3rd, 2011 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Lioness

Mr. Lion had one request regarding my wedding day look: he wanted my hair down. At first, I was a little skeptical. What if it got in my face? What if it covered up to much of my gown? Would my veil look okay with a down-do? Then, I recalled the feeling I get when I look at my old prom pictures. I had chosen a pretty involved up-do. On some girls, this would look glamorous. On me, I just looked poofy.

An exaggeration, but you get the point.

Most importantly, I just didn’t look like myself.

I don’t want to look back on our wedding pictures years from now and wonder why I picked a hairstyle that wasn’t me. I want to look like myself…just a more glammed up version of myself. Enter the Old Hollywood inspiration.

Veronica Lake is one of my favorite Hollywood bombshells. Her curls are subtle, but sophisticated. The look is natural, but it also packs a lot of sexy.

Rita Hayworth is another excellent example of the classic Hollywood look. Her curls are a little more wavy, adding a softer element to the look.

At the risk of this post turning into a Madonna music video from the 1990s, let’s venture into modern day, shall we?

Hmm…I wonder if I could pull off red lipstick with that look, too? All of these ladies had oval faces with high cheekbones; I needed to make sure someone with big cheeks a heart-shaped face could work it, too!

Phew! Thanks for the assurance, Scarlett! Then, I just needed to see it on a redhead.

Seeing that Old Hollywood look on a redhead reminded me of another one of my favorite bombshells.

She’s not bad, she’s just drawn that way!

So there you have it: soft, wavy, loose curls with a little bit of a pick-up in that front piece just to keep it off the face. I’m meeting with my hairstylist soon for a test run, so I’ll definitely let y’all know how it goes!

How did you decide on your wedding day hairdo? Where did you draw inspiration from?

I had a request from my fiance too. : ) He wants it down. And I completely agree with you. I wore my hair up for prom and I didn’t look like myself either.
I didn’t have any stars in mind for my hair inspiration but I found lots of pretty pictures in wedding magazines of girls wearing their hair down in soft curls.

I love these! My FI actually wants my hair pulled back from my face; not with this five head buddy!

my fiance prefers my hair down as well but I just don’t think I can do it on my wedding day. It will be in the 90s when we get married and I think having my hair down will make me too hot! I don’t want my pretty curls to get sweaty and droopy. I made him a deal that if we have some freak cold spell I will wear it down otherwise it will be up but just in a soft bun. Nothing crazy or big!

My fiance also requested that I wear my hair down because otherwise I just won’t look like myself. I love the styles you chose and I think they will look great!

@MsJeep23: GASP! You just made my day.

@xtatic1: Yikes! Yeah, I don’t know if I could do that…it’s important to be comfortable!

@Charcole2011: My hair has the same tendency…hopefully we’ll be able to get enough volume and hold in it so it can stay put!
