Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Parental Cuteness

January 3rd, 2011 @ 5:31 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

I’ve always been curious when friends have talked about their parents’ weddings. I love seeing what they wore, their traditions, the families that were invited—it’s like taking a step back in time; I love that in thirty years time, our families might be doing the same peek into the past to look at our wedding, too!

In terms of history though, I was pretty lucky: I actually got to attend my parents’ wedding. Say, what? Well, I may not have been there in person or seeing it through my own eyes, but I was definitely a big part of the wedding day—Momma Jaguar was eight months pregnant on her wedding day!

My parents got married very young, upon finding out they were expecting…er, me. My dad was a wee cherub of just 18 and my mum was only 20, so it was quite a low key wedding ceremony. There were no fancy lace gowns or sweeping trains involved, but they still looked super stylish in their wedding duds, and completely adorable. Check them out!

Is my mum’s hat not completely styling? I love it!

You’ll have to excuse the blurry picture, but look how happy they are!

It does make me a little bit sad that there aren’t any traditional ‘hand-me-down’ items that were kept for me to incorporate into our own wedding day, but just seeing those pictures is enough to make me happy. They got married for love, and for me, and they’re two of the strongest people I know to make things work, even during the tough times. I hope Mr. Jaguar and I can form our own bond throughout our marriage.

Are you incorporating any family traditions into your own wedding?

I didn’t really incorporate any family traditions/items into my wedding, but I did find out for the first time from my Mom (when we were trying on wedding dresses!) that she had an antique cameo brooch that she got from her great grandmother. Which just so happened to go perfectly with my dress! I had no idea we had such an item in the family and I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that. I plan on offering it to my (possible) future daughter or daughter-in-law to use in their wedding. I hope to have it be passed down in the family to be used in multiple weddings. It makes me feel all mushy gushy when I think about it. :)

We didn’t have much to incorporate, but I too enjoy having a mom close to my age. She was 19 when she had me :)

You look just like your dad (in a cute way, not an ewww-you-look-like-a-boy-and-I’m-five way!). And the hat is adorable!

I’m going to adapt my mom’s veil into something a bid more modern to wear on the big day!

Dude, your dads suit! It’s amazing! I didn’t have anything to be passed down to me either, my parent’s wedding was under the same circumstances and while my mom wore a kimino there were only 3 guests!

So cute! My mom is five inches shorter than I am… so her gown will remain a family heirloom, but not one to be worn again… at least not as a bride. (She realized that I was outgrowing it when I was a preteen, and so I did get a chance to wear it at a bridal fashion show at my church when I was about thirteen. She ordered a bouquet for me… because she wanted to give me a special memory of the day! I’m really glad that she made sure to make it a special memory! My grandmother gave me her wedding hankerchief from her wedding in 1931… and it’s already in my plans to be a part of my own special day!

I’m in a similar lack of stuff situation as my parents got married underwater (and the bride wore a wetsuit). Makes for a nice story though, and I’m glad I don’t have to live up to anyone’s wedding expectations.
