Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CT Age and Occupation: 24, Web Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording Engineer Engagement Date: March 13, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: The Inn at Longshore About Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
About Mrs. Panther

But … It’s Mine!

January 4th, 2011 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Panther

I’ve probably let it slip a couple of times that I’m a little obsessed with my dress. It was obviously my biggest purchase so far, and I’ve been kind of designing everything else around it. It’s the whole wedding, basically.

And I’ve been thrilled not to see it on many other people. I Tivo Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta just so I can fast-forward through the episodes in search of my gown. I Google it like it’s my job. I scan the blogs for any hint of taffeta. After seven months of not spotting it anywhere other than magazine ads, I was fairly certain that I had picked a really original style. I once asked Monte why I never saw anyone try it on the show, and he said, “Well, honey, not many women can pull it off like you can.” I positively glowed at that comment. Yes! YES! *cue maniacal laughter*

Unfortunately, at the end of October…I spotted it. On the blog of all blogs, Style Me Pretty. And it wasn’t just a brief mention—they were gushing over it. Check out the post here.

Oh, PS: SHE’S WEARING MY BRACELET, TOO.

Now please, do NOT get me wrong: I feel so lucky to have a wedding gown that would attract the attention of Style Me Pretty. It’s actually sad how much I crave their approval. But at the same time…the more they gush over it, the more brides that will run out and buy it. And the less chance I’ll have of wearing an unusual, original dress. I know it’s Amsale, and I should have gone with an indie designer if I really wanted to be original, but, well, I fell in love.

And today, Style Me Pretty released a digital magazine featuring their favorite weddings of the year. I secretly hoped that the Georgetown wedding wouldn’t be in there. But as I clicked through, there it was, with this as the headline: “Georgetown’s Finest: With a dress that just might bring you to tears,” and this as the description: “One look at this gorgeous gown and we were done. Add that to a beautiful bridal party, a stunning bride, a [blah blah blah and a blah blah blah]. But if we had to pin it down…it’s that dress, that perfect fairy-tale of a dress, that completely and totally stole our hearts.”

OK, OK, we get it! You like the dress! But please, keep it to yourselves!

I know—I’m being irrational and ungrateful and obnoxious. But I can’t help wanting to keep my dress all for myself.

But … It’s Mine! : wedding atlanta wedding dress 21 2

Take it off! Take it off right now, beautiful Georgetown bride!! … Just kidding.

Join me, ladies. I’m sharing my secret, guilty, evil thoughts with you, just in case anyone else has some evil thoughts and wants to feel less alone in her evilness. Please share one of your selfish bridezilla moments to make me feel better about being such a giant B.

Is it any comfort that not a single person at your wedding, (unless they’re also a bride-to-be and probably not even then), will have ever seen it before?

Haha I’m so sorry this appeared! I feel the same way about my engagement ring. But I haven’t spotted it anywhere else yet…and I’d like to keep it that way!

They just showed this dress on SYTTD Atlanta yesterday. Sorry. I’m sure it’s going to increase in popularity.

Same thing happened to me - my 2008 off the rack dress was some how featured on SMP the month before my wedding . . . sigh. It was fun seeing it on another bride and we had such different styles (she had a summery garden wedding) - but I know exactly what you mean because I felt a little sad when I saw mine featured too.

I haven’t even started dress shopping yet, but this is EXACTLY how I feel about my ring. I am mad-crazy possessive of her…I was an only child until I was eight, and my non-sharing tendencies come out around her (and yes, I do refer to the ring as “her”). Nobody I know outside of the ‘bee has a halo-style ring, and I know the first one I eventually come across will make me a little sad. Loony? Yes. But it’s nice to know I’m not alone in my neurosis!

That is a beautiful wedding but I can’t wait to see yours. You’ll still rock that dress and look absolutely beautiful. Keep your head up. It’s yours and I’m sure Mr. Panter will think you look stunning in it.

I actually find it charming that this is an “issue.” :)

Feel privileged that this something you can exude energy on -you’ve got money, love, and time on your side.

Life isn’t always so easy & it makes me remember to be grateful that I have my health, someone to love, and a community of friends and family helping me financially pull off this wedding this year. The idea that someone else is wearing the same “couture” gown in grander scheme of life will someday in the future seem really silly. Enjoy this moment :)

i can totally see how you would feel that way–i mean, did SMP have to keep *gushing* like that?? but yes, i agree with everything people have said–you certainly rock that dress, *not* every other bride is going to wear that dress, and everyone at your wedding is going to be blown away by your dress not only because they don’t know what SMP even is, but more importantly because it’ll be on you, the beaming bride.

this hasn’t happened to me. . .yet! But you bet I would have the same reaction if I saw my dress featured. Don’t feel bad haha, i think a lot of us would feel the exact same way.

But guess what, I’m not reading about her wedding, I’m reading about yours! So seeing you in the dress will be way cooler!

@sfchick: Oh, trust me, it seems silly now, and I’m more than willing to admit that! I completely realize that there are WAY more important things in life. My mom just lost her house (my childhood home) to a fire, I need to figure out how to honor my recently-deceased father in our wedding, and my grandmother is also currently in hospice and will probably not make it more than a few more weeks. Sometimes it’s nice to fret over the little “problems” instead of the big ones, you know?

um, of course the dress is going to be on a *bride* at your wedding, because it’s a bridal gown, i more meant that your guests will be there to celebrate you, and you wearing that dress is not going to be like anyone else wearing that dress.

I know what you mean, but if it’s any consolation at all, most of your guests will only notice how beautiful the dress makes you look. I read that SMP article when it came out and now that you brought it up I’m thinking “oh I did read that one.” Anddddd I didn’t even remember the dress at all. So maybe your guests will be so keyed in on how beautiful you look, not on what your dress looks like per say, that they won’t realize if they’ve even seen it before!

Well, I think I’ve found my blogging twin. I say this because this is something I would write. I mean the whole thing, the links and all. Giant B? Really? Could you be any more awesome? I don’t think so.

I love that you wrote this, and I get it. It’s so something I’d obsess over, if my dress was by a designer anyone had ever heard of. And I secretly feel the EXACT SAME WAY about my wedding shoes.

I like you, Miss Panther.

I totally understand, but on the bright side I’m pretty sure 99% of your guests will have never seen it before! Unless you are a bride to be, and even then, a bride to be that stalks wedding blogs (which I have realized is not something every bride to be does - as in 2 of my friends who are getting married and bought designer gowns don’t even know what style me pretty is - who knew?!), you will be the only person anyone has ever seen in that stunning dress!

On a side note, the other day when I went to try on dresses I walked in and a bride was trying on your dress. I loudly exclaimed “oh my god my friend has that dress!” at which my bridesmaid that was with me blankly stared at and then asked me which friend. I then had to explain that it wasn’t a real friend per se, but instead a girl whose blog I read and really like. She and my consultant looked at me like I was a total weirdo. Yeah…

HAH I totally felt the same way. I saw MY dress on SYTTD (Kleinfelds) and at first got so happy because yayyy there she is! But then, I was like okay, you can take it off now….for real, NOW BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL WANT IT.

Also, side note, having seen the dress on you in pictures, you look freakin amazing in it. Believe me, no one will be thinking anything but “gawd, i wish i had that dress!” when it’s on you. Also, also, she may have the bracelet, but not the necklace!! (which I covet…hard.)
