Bridesmaids on a Budget

January 5th, 2011 @ 3:47 pm by Mrs. Pancakes

As I mentioned previously, I don’t love the idea of traditional bridesmaids’ dresses. I’ve been on the hunt for a great dress for the last few weeks, and here are my favorite stores:

RUCHE

If you haven’t heard of Ruche, you should certainly check it out. I recently made my first purchase and can’t wait until it gets here!! The best thing about Ruche is that it provides vintage-inspired dresses at affordable prices.

TOPSHOP

Topshop is a UK-based online store with a great selection of budget beauties.

1. Pinafore Dress by Love $60

2. Juliet Ruffle Dress by Yuki $110.00

3. Pleated Dress by Rare $76.00

LULU’s

My wonderful, beautiful, highly intelligent baby sister (and bridesmaid) sent me a link to Lulu’s a few days ago. Lulu’s is another great online store that does budget-conscious dresses. So I thought I’d do a general bridesmaids’ dress search…it’s so hard to know how good a dress will look (1) in a set of five or six and (2) next to my wedding dress…but here are the dresses I kind of like:

1. Whole Lotta Punch Dress $52.00

2. Shock Me Like an Electric Eel $34.00

3. French Toast Tuesday Dress $38.00

2. Rabbit Run Strapless Dress $70.00

3. Daisy Ruffle Dress by Dick and Mo $62.00

MOD CLOTH

Another great site for bridesmaids’ dresses, ModCloth is a vintage-inspired online clothing, accessories, and decor retailer. Plus, shipping is only seven dollars on every order!

Here are some of my very favorites:

1. You Were Mint for Me Dress ($49.99)

2. Jasmine Flowers Dress ($64.99)

3. Kennebunkport Dress in Wake ($62.99)

4. A Little Bit Indie Rock Dress ($69.99)

At this point my top three favorites (in no particular order) are: 1. You Were Mint for Me 2. Juliet Ruffle Dress 3. Ballad of the Sea Dress.

Which ones do you love? What other stores am I missing?

Happy shopping!

I love those shops, and am alway SO DISSAPPOINTED when I order something and it is incredibly short. I hate hate hate being 6′1″!

I know that TOPSHOP has been featured in numerous magazines and Kate Moss has a line at the store. However, the customer service is horrible. I ordered 2 dresses to wear on NYE on December 15, 2010 and they still have not arrived. I have called customer service numerous times and was told that because my package was shipped to an international location there is no tracking number and that I should allow more time for arrival. Each time I called the customer service line and no one seemed a bit concerned that the package is taking more than 10 business days to arrive. All that I was able to find out is that my package has left the UK. I will be returning the dresses once I get them to get a full refund. I found the customer service experience to awful and will not order from this shop again.

Now Lulus on the other has is wonderful. I will recommend this site to anyone. My dress that I ordered from the site arrived quickly. However, I did not like the way it looked on my body. This is no fault to Lulus. Make a return was easy and simple. Just drop it off at UPS or Fedex and it is done. I will in the future order from Lulus again.

Sooo cute! Online dress shopping is the best.

Be careful with ModCloth (especially if any of your bridesmaids are leggy), some of their dresses are SHORT. I bought one to wear to a friend’s wedding (”Bouquet toss”), and even though it is beyond adorable I had to find something else because there is no way I could wear it in a church. Even if you don’t have a church wedding, some of your girlfriends might not be comfortable with something that barely (ha ha) covers their behinds

Even if you can’t use the stores for bmaid dresses, you probably still “need” rehearsal and shower dresses. ;)

Love these dresses. :) Warning about LuLus though, they carry some of the same dresses as forever 21. Depending on the quality level you are going for that is something to consider.

Great post. PP has already mentioned that some of the styles are very short.
Be mindful that it does take along time to get a package from England if you order from Topshop. I think a PP was a little unrealistic ordering over the holiday season and execting international delivery in such a short period of time.

re: TOPSHOP

TOPSHOP did not inform me that my package would be delayed by weeks. If there are unexpected delays with my package, then I should be notified. Yes, now I understand that the package was coming from the UK but the site I ordered from is US based. TOPSHOP does not use a tracking system to track international packages. There is no option to express ship the clothing. Therefore, please be warned that a customer rep can only tell that the package has left the UK but can not tell you the current location. My fustration with TOPSHOP is partly due to my delayed package but more so with the customer service.

Re the complaint about Topshop customer service:
Make sue you read the shipping policy. You will see that all orders are shipped from the UK.
Any company that ships internationally si only responsible to get the order out of their door ina timely fashion. They cannot be responsible for delays caused by the carriers, huge volume of holiday mail , delays at customs etc.

“Please note, all orders are shipped from the UK. Customers will be responsible for paying any applicable import duties and taxes. Charges may vary based on the contents of the order. Customers are advised to contact their local customs office for further information on current import regulations.

Standard delivery is available over the Christmas period, but please note that UK Bank holidays are not classified as delivery days. Customers are advised to check the estimated delivery day displayed at the checkout for updated delivery times.”

Comsider it a lesson learned.
I have had to wait over a month for packages ordered from US companies and shipped to Canada.
