A Ring for the Mister

January 5th, 2011 @ 4:30 pm by Ms. Sloth

Choosing a ring for Mr. S was a simple task, but it fell almost entirely on me. I did all of the research, and he just made the final decision.

It started out with a few simple questions:

Me: “What do you want it to look like?”

Him: “I don’t know. Simple. Not too shiny. Nothing fancy on it.”

Me: “What kind of metal?”

Him: “Whatever is cheap and durable.”

So tungsten or titanium it is. I did some Googling and came up with a few options for Mr. S.

From Overstock.com:

This tungsten ring was, in Mr. S’ words, “too shiny.”

But this titanium ring was a contender.

From Amazon:

Mr. S thought that this tungsten ring was “just okay.”

And he preferred this titanium ring.

Since titanium looked like the clear winning metal, I checked one more site: Etsy, of course. And I found this:

seller: titaniumknights

And Mr. S said it was the one.

So, with less than an hour of research, Mr. S had a ring! Easy peasy!

Where did your fiancé get his ring? Did you help him pick it out?

I had an idea that my fiance would be getting a ring similar to the ones you have above but boy was I wrong. I finally got him to check out rings and to figure out what size he was about two weeks before Chrsitmas. He ended up liking rings with a diamond in it and then the one he absolutely loved was a plantinum and yellow gold two tone ring. So I bought the two toned ring.

Looks like a good choice! We originally were considering either tungsten or titanium as well, but he’s been wearing a titanium engagement ring (his idea) and we discovered that the metal gets dings and scratches way easier than we had anticipated. He works around a lot of machinery. So, in the end we went with tungsten. We found a wonderful ring that pretty closely matches the coloring of my white gold wedding band which was exciting.

The tungsten vs. titanium debate is a tough one overall. They both have pros and cons, but in the end I think that the most important thing is that he has a ring he likes and will want to wear. :)

My fiance’ has had three rings…we’ve been engaged for almost 7 years now! Through the years, he’s lost one, trashed one, and pawned one (after he lost his job). So now that our wedding plans are back on again, I’ll go this route too…cheap, easy to replace if needed, and it’s definetly “manly” looking!

That Etsy seller is wonderful! I purchased a promise ring for FI a few years back b/c we had broken up and when we got back together he was insecure in our relationship, and I want him to have something to let him know I wasn’t going anywhere.

It cost $50, and Fi has worn it every single day. The only downside is that it can’t be resized, and FI has to wear it on his middle finger.

For the actual wedding ring, he chose white gold to match mine, and so he can have it resized in the future if needed. But had he not wanted that, I would have went through them again!

Early in the ring shopping process, I had a few titaniumknights rings bookmarked. The mix of matte and shiny is modern while still being traditional. FI really likes that style but is now wondering if he’d be happier with a plain gold band.

The 3rd ring down is Mr. Smith’s ring! And THANK YOU soooo much for posting it! You see, I have purchased this ring 2 times from Overstock for $60 and both rings were the wrong size (he thought he was one size and then we got him sized and they were both too big). Anyway, the Amazon ring is so much cheaper! Thanks for saving me some money!
