I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Hanging From the Trees…

January 5th, 2011 @ 10:43 am by Mrs. Pancakes

I was lying around the other day flipping through the channels when I caught a glimpse of the Taylor Swift video for “Mine” and noticed the gorgeous scenes in the woods with the hanging photographs. This obviously translated to wedding immediately, and the great Google search began.

There is something so romantic and almost dreamlike about having things hanging from trees, blowing in the wind. I love the chandeliers and the string of flowers. I think the photographs could be really cool, but there is something really narcissistic about being surrounded by images of of yourself. I think it’s a hard balance to strike between appreciating the natural beauty of an outdoor location and enhancing its beauty to make it your own.

One of the hardest things about planning a destination wedding is not knowing what the location looks like. It’s impossible to plan DIY projects when I can’t envision the location.

Well…not impossible, but really really hard! Other outdoor-wedding brides/destination brides…HELP? How did you decide on decor? Did you spend a lot of time at the location or just trust your instincts?

I am basically playing by gut instinct. I am trying to keep it simple and to just let the beauty of the beach and the ocean be as much of a decoration as a beautiful setting :)

I completely agree. I love things hanging from trees and I’m hoping to be able to do something beautiful.

When I saw that video premiere, I thought “wedding” immediately, too! It is so pretty!

i love this idea! Love how guests can look all around literally and see items from top to bottom! Wish my venue had a place i can hang things!

I love my venue, but no big huge trees to hang things from… So I can understand why it’s difficult to plan anything if you don’t have a clear idea of what the venue looks like! Then again you’ll always find a place to hang a pom pom vine, so as long as you prepare decor that can be flexibly placed, you should be ok!

So it feels less “narcissistic” to you, why don’t you get wedding photos from the family and friends attending and hang those from the trees? Then you’re surrounded by the people you love and their marriages! Photos of the two of make sense but think about how special your guests would feel if some of them had memories of their wedding day at your wedding. Just a thought! :)

I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw that image of Taylor in her video! I even started thinking what tree in the venue I could hang some pictures on. (We’re not even getting married for over a year!) Great inspiration, huh?
