Well, I hadn’t resolved my venue issue and I had been too sick to DIY anything for  several days. So what was a planning bride to do in this situation? The answer, dear friends, is clear. Buy a cake topper!

Mr. Lox and I had some cake topper drama, if you can imagine such a thing. I may not have been terrifically clear on this point, but we’re silly. I mean that we’re goofy and fun. We are both normal folks with 9-5 jobs, but if you look just under that? We are simply not normal. On some things we are traditional, which you’ll see as we get more into planning details. But on other things? We are…well…not. So, enter the thought of the cake topper.

Once upon a time, I had a cake topper of two people. It was traditional, and expected, and came standard with our cake. I had no real feelings on cake toppers so that was that.

Something like this. (source)

That would not do for Mr. Lox and me. So, enter Momma Lox.

Now, you have yet to be introduced, I realize. So let me give you a quick synopsis here. Momma Lox is a devoted momma indeed. And she loves me with all of her heart. But if I’m silly? Momma Lox is bordering on looney. That is your only official warning. Because, you know, I can call my momma crazy, but you may not. Now you know. :) So, Momma Lox enters the cake topper scene and has a grand idea. A vision, even. She sees…bobbleheads. But not just any bobbleheads. Bobbleheads that look just like us. On. Our. Cake. And she became fixated. Determined. Single-mindedly chasing bobbleheads.

Seriously, just like this. (source)

Mr. Lox was horrified. I mean, he was stunned into silence and started making crazy “help me” eyes at me the night my mother suggested this. But poor Momma Lox was too excited to see them. Excited over the bobbleheads.

The fundamental problem was this: We had already chosen a cake topper. And what we chose lies somewhere between traditional wedding people, and crazy bobbleheads that look just like us. Ok, I have to admit…it’s a bit closer to the bobbleheads than it is to the other people. But it is also distinctly us. Silly, fun, and incorporates one of my favorite things in the world.

Yes, monkeys. (source)

Oh yes, monkeys. We will have funny little monkeys on the top of our cake. And somehow, this is perfect. Our wedding will be pretty, and somewhat traditional, and a celebration of us. And what celebration of us would be complete without a bit of whimsy and a couple of monkeys?

Do you have details in your wedding that show your personality? How about something silly that other people may not understand? Or, what did you decide to put on top of your cake?

My brothers actually got us the bobbleheads for a wedding present. Ours were individual, but it was the same company and they are hilarious! We’ve got them up on our living room shelf and they are fun to look at. They do look disturbingly like us too….

I am using the same etsy seller as you for our cake topper! I just put in our order a few days ago for the lobster couple! When we first met we discovered we both loved the show Friends, and we started calling each other our lobster after the episode when Phoebe calls Ross and Rachel each others lobsters! I am so excited for our cake topper!

We used the Wilton “Oh No You Don’t” (bride chasing after fleeing groom) on our cake -it was great -our photog snapped a photo of hubs trying to imitate the pose, but he just ended up looking like a zombie. My sister got us a custom cake topper for our shower-a Cocker Spaniel bride & groom modeled after our own dogs! We used it on our cupcakes at the wedding. It reminds me a lot of yours. We have it on display now.

My fiance wanted to put Optimus Prime and Barbie. We settled on Lego people. :)

In another universe we would have used a Batman action figure and a Sailor Mars (from Sailor Moon) doll as our cake people. But I thought this was too juvenille (don’t tell my FI I said that!). Then we were very close to having a Futurama Fry and Lela cake topper, but the only figures I’ve seen and them are just too darn casual. So we ended up with a twist on the traditiona.. They’re a couple in regular bridal gear, but the guy’s tie is off and top button undone, and they are both barefoot. And they actually sit on the edge of the cake. I think this will work great since I decided on a blue cake. It will look like they’re hanging their feet by/in a pool.

That is sooo cute!
I wanted a nice monogram because its classy and all, but then I realized that it’s not like us . . . so we’re doing something totally silly!

Mr. Starfish was set on having a cake topper. We bought one, but it was too big to fit on top of our cake (we bought offline and didn’t look at measurements).

I love taht your incorporating your personalities on the topper! :)

Oh.My.Gosh! I love those bobble heads in a weird inside joke between us way. I’ve gotten him a bobble head or two in the past and it would be hilarious if we had our own sitting next to our favorite celebs! Hmmmmm

Haha Love the monkeys?

So what happened with the bobblehead idea? Did you tell your mom you already had one? Is she getting the bobbleheads anyways? You left us hanging!

I really really want a cake topper - but so far have not found anything that feels just right! Glad that you managed to find such an adorable topper, and so perfect for the two of you!

My fiancee is a farmer (hence my hive name!) and mentioned that he really wanted a tractor for our wedding cake topper. I wasn’t convinced until we were surfing online and came across this completely cute and customizable cake topper from Etsy seller: http://www.etsy.com/listing/38129714/farm-tractor-wedding-cake-topper?ref=sr_gallery_27&ga_search_query=country+wedding+decorations&ga_search_type=all&ga_page=1&order=price_desc&includes%5B0%5D=tags

I was horrified by the thought of spending $140 on a cake topper but Mr. Farmer LOVED it so much that I’m sure he would have spent $250 on the darn thing just because it was what he wanted (and very us at the same time!) I love the idea that we will have a very significant keepsake to display after the wedding. :) Win, win!
