This is the face of a man who has suffered through months of planning for this moment:
“Stop taking my picture! Do you not see the fork in my hand?”
So Mr. PD went in for the kill with six—six!—full-sized pieces of cake from Bluebird Bakery in Glendale. It was a beautiful thing. Deciding to put a deposit down on Bluebird? Easy. Deciding which flavors to choose? Not so much. Oh, the flavors of buttercream and ganache. The fillings, the glazes, the liqueur accents. It was the best sugar stomachache I’ve ever had.
We came home with a LOT of cake leftovers. Our friends sampled a few and gave rave reviews of the classic torte and the carrot cake (not usually my thing, but wowza, this carrot cake is in it’s own league). We were still having a hard time deciding between icings, so we let the dog lick a little bit:
He liked it a lot, if you can’t tell. But then the cat got jealous, so she got a little, too.
(I’m not great with the Internet cats thing…did I do it right? Ha.)
And so, we decided on five regular cakes in five different flavors, as well as a two-tiered cake with almond buttercream. We have since visited Bluebird twice just to eat the cake again. The pets have been begging to go, too:
Sorry, furbabies! Cake seconds are for Prairie Dogs only. Seriously, I hope our guests save room for dessert.
I was trying to think of a question to ask about cake, but after writing this, all I can think is: I LOVE CAKE! So tell me, hive, do you love cake? Or are you more of a pie/brownie/trendy-pastry type?
