Mrs. Prairie Dog's Picture
Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer Engagement Date: December 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Glendale Lyceum About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
About Mrs. Prairie Dog

This is the face of a man who has suffered through months of planning for this moment:

“Stop taking my picture! Do you not see the fork in my hand?”

So Mr. PD went in for the kill with six—six!—full-sized pieces of cake from Bluebird Bakery in Glendale. It was a beautiful thing. Deciding to put a deposit down on Bluebird? Easy. Deciding which flavors to choose? Not so much. Oh, the flavors of buttercream and ganache. The fillings, the glazes, the liqueur accents. It was the best sugar stomachache I’ve ever had.

We came home with a LOT of cake leftovers. Our friends sampled a few and gave rave reviews of the classic torte and the carrot cake (not usually my thing, but wowza, this carrot cake is in it’s own league). We were still having a hard time deciding between icings, so we let the dog lick a little bit:

He liked it a lot, if you can’t tell. But then the cat got jealous, so she got a little, too.

(I’m not great with the Internet cats thing…did I do it right? Ha.)

And so, we decided on five regular cakes in five different flavors, as well as a two-tiered cake with almond buttercream. We have since visited Bluebird twice just to eat the cake again. The pets have been begging to go, too:

Sorry, furbabies! Cake seconds are for Prairie Dogs only. Seriously, I hope our guests save room for dessert.

I was trying to think of a question to ask about cake, but after writing this, all I can think is: I LOVE CAKE! So tell me, hive, do you love cake? Or are you more of a pie/brownie/trendy-pastry type?

total cake-aholic here. I am personally keeping my fingers crossed that our guests DON’T leave room for dessert so that we have many, many leftovers ;)

Love the furbabies! At least your cat waited for Mr. PD to give him a taste- mine would have sat on the table and tried to sneak off with some like we didn’t notice the giant ball of fur on the table! :)

I’m game for anything baked- probably why we’re having 4 options for dessert!
Bride’s Cake (white with some sort of fruit), Groom’s Cake (chocolate and gran mariner), Kransekake (almond flourless cake), and Whoopie Pies for favors (traditional)

WOW. THAT IS AWESOME! I wish we could have 6 cakes. But we are having cake AND a dessert bar (and hoping beyond hope, a chocolate fountain), so I guess it’s ok. I love all sugary items, but I definitely wanted a wedding cake because cake is scrumptious, and I’m a sucker for pretty cakes. For once, I wanted to be able to go all-out with decorations. I’m so excited for our bakery, it is AMAZING :).

@JillBill: Yeah, I’m with you. I intend to sample all 4 of our desserts and go back for seconds.

OMG your pets are so cuuuuuuuute! My cat eats some crazy things but she is never partial to cake (she will lap up yogurt like nobody’s business though!). I am so curious as to your flavors!
