Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst Engagement Date: March 12, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Casa Punto de Vista About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!

Clothes Don’t Make the Man…

January 6th, 2011 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Pancakes

But he sure is a good-looking man. ;) I rarely get to see Mr. Pancakes in a suit, so this was a pretty big day for me!

We bought Mr. Pancakes’s suit over Labor Day weekend in September. I was a little nervous about getting a suit so far in advance, but I knew that if I wanted a good summer suit (AKA one that he could wear on a hot Costa Rican day and not sweat through), we would have to catch the end-of-summer sale or wait until just weeks before the wedding.

So we headed out to JoS A. Banks for their big end-of-season “buy one, get one half off” sale. When we got there we met salesman Eric, who was helpful, charming, and very well dressed…Let’s just say we ended up buying TWO suits! (Have I mentioned I LOVE shopping!?) Together they were $320 including tax and alterations (originally $920!).

Back to Mr. P’s wedding suit. It’s a lightweight cotton blend that breathes really well. I wasn’t convinced it was the right suit, except that it was the last one in this light gray color and happened to be his size. I am a big believer in signs, and I truly believe it was meant to be! There were a lot of navy and khaki suits, but we had already decided we preferred gray. It has a more vintage feel and is less traditional at beach weddings. Plus Mr. P really wanted a suit he would be able to wear again, and we live too far north for him to get much use out of a navy or khaki suit.

One more thing down (yay!)…a ridiculous number left. Sigh. There is something very Sisyphean about wedding planing. Let’s celebrate our accomplishments, large or small. What did you get done recently?

Argghh you just reminded me to add myself to the JOS A BANK e-mail list so I know when the next sale is coming up, we are planning on taking advantage of this buy one/get one half deal too. I hope it comes up soon!

Yay! I love that he isn’t wearing one of those vest things that are so typical! When we went to get my Fiance a suit he put on one of the vests and said he felt like aladdin (have you seen Superbad?). Anyway… after laughing hysterically we decided it was a no… I think just a tie looks awesome and if they take off the jacket they will still look good, and not aladdin-y. :)

(Is it wrong that I recognized the store from the picture alone?) We took advantage of the same sale, bought two suits (either of which would work for the wedding), and just last night I saw him looking at suits again! Love the grey color you found - it was a meant to be.
