Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

The Low Updo

January 6th, 2011 @ 5:42 pm by Mrs. Brooch

I’ve been thinking more and more about the way I’m going to look on our wedding day. Probably because my dress will be arriving next month and with each passing day, I’m remembering there are beauty maintenance things I want to be working on, including teeth whiting, hair coloring, and those sorts of things.

As a part of my thought process, I decided to phone my hairdresser for the day of the wedding and set up a hair trial. My mom (who I mentioned is a stylist) isn’t going to do my hair on our wedding day because it would be too stressful. We want her to be able to relax and hang out with the girls—not work!

My hairdresser asked me to collect a few pictures of ideas I had for how I wanted to wear my hair, and remember I thought I wanted a side pony? Well, I may have changed my mind!

I’m overwhelmed by all of the choices out there and all I know is that I want it to be at least partially up. I think if it’s all up, it will look really good with my dress, but anywho, here’s what I’ve come up with so far.

I love this woman’s hair…In all pictures, but especially this one:

Who doesn’t dig the bump in the front?

See, what’d I tell you! You will see her in a lot of my hair files! She’s got gorgeous locks! I love the wavy curls and the part in this one! I don’t know how a center part will look on me, though. I usually go for the side part.

Here’s another one of my idols! Doesn’t Taylor’s hair always look good? I think so! This is similar to the style in the picture right above, but it’s with the side part. I love the low updos.

During my search I stumbled across a few of Mrs. Jelly Beans‘ inspiration files, and I love them. These are definitely a little “tighter” than the others and would probably stay longer.

I’m not sure if I like this style as much as I like this color! Although I do think a little higher updo would be very flattering with my gown and for wearing a cathedral veil.

Are you confused about how you want to do your hair?

I always knew I wanted my hair down, definitely. But the dress I got has a tulle halter strap with jewels at the very back of my neck- definitely something that should be shown off hence an updo…I’m so confused!

Sooooooo confused!! I wish I knew what would look best with my face shape/neck (round-to-heart shaped/short-to-medium).

I wasn’t until now. Now I want to explore the front bump option. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love curly, wavy, romantic low up-do’s! I can’t wait to see how your hair trial turns out.

P.S. My mom hated doing the flowers, so stressful for her. You are right not to let your mom do your hair :)

Yes I’m confused! Like you, I love the low updo…I don’t want anything too tight, but I’m also torn about wearing my hair down. Long loose waves vs a low updo is my dilemma!

With your face shape brooch, try a side part, a volumized bump in back (like the blond bride in the pic) and a higher updo! I think you’d be happiest with that combination :)

I did a curly updo (I took that Taylor Swift pic with me) and I’ve gotta say, my hairdresser sprayed my hair so thoroughly that it didn’t move, even with my enthusiastic dancing.

So confused… even more so that I booked the hair lady without meeting her in person OR doing a hair trial. Am I headed (hah!) for disaster?

umm I think we have all the same hair inspiration pics! =) I love all of these, but my hair is stick straight so I’m worried about whether I’ll be able to achieve the wavy updo and it will stay. can’t wait to hear how your trial goes!

I like the last one, it’s beautiful but I often wonder if my hair can even look close to some of those star’s hair. I’m thinknig there’s some filler in there.
