About Mrs. Giraffe

Fantastic Fonts

January 6th, 2011 @ 7:05 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

I’ve seen it on the boards, I know there are other people as obsessed with fonts as I am. Although, I feel like obsessed is an understatement. As a graphic designer and typographer, my whole life revolves around letter forms. To this day, I swear my font design class in college still ranks in one one my top ten favorite things ever. I mean, if I wake up on the Cooper Black side of the bed, you know it’s going to be a good day.

That is all background information, but I swear its important. Now that you know all that, you guys can understand how excited I get about receiving my MyFonts Newsletter in my email.

Yesterday I got the Best Fonts of 2010 newsletter. Now, I’m sure you all are as on edge as I was to find out who the winners are. There are some good ones, I promise, and a few Script Typefaces that really made me stop and think “Man, this would like great on a wedding invitation.” Of course, by “a wedding invitation,” I meant “our wedding invitation,” but I’m sure they would work for yours, too!

Ready for some font eye candy? I’m already drooling over these babies!

1) Affair designed by Alejandro Paul. Available for $99. Below graphics by John Collins. Oh wait, is that already in my shopping cart? Maybe! Although, I feel like if I spent the money then I’d totally have to use it, and it might be a little weird to use a font called Affair on wedding invitations. Just kidding!

Ohmygosh, at only $20 ($37 from the Pro collection), I’m pretty sure I need this in my FontBook now! And, bonus, it includes over 1000 glyphs so you can set your type perfectly! 4) Okay, okay so Parfait Script also by Maximiliano Sproviero wasn’t on the best of 2010 list, but I still love it (and want it!) so I had to sneak it in. It costs as little as $19 ($57 for the Pro collection) and is just wonderful. Graphics below designed by Maxispr.

Anybody else look into buying a few font for the big day?

@Miss Giraffe, I’m a newbie to pretty fonts, but I am in love! Can I simply purchase them from this site and then use them on my Mac? Will they work in simple programs like Word?

Thanks for the cool post!

I love the Lady Rene font. I drooled over it for a little while before I finally cracked and bought it last month - totally love it!

I considered myself pretty BA that I managed to download and install a new (free) font. Fancier and costlier fonts are frighteningly out of my league!

…I wish my college had offered font design courses! I’ve been drooling over the Memoriam font for ages, and I totally used the wedding as an excuse to buy a couple of fonts. Love your picks!

Parfait Script reminds me of curled paper art. Loooove it.

I love alllll these fonts!
Lady Rene is great, but one gripe of mine is that it is like writing in all caps, all the letters take up the same space. I find it easier to read when there are height differences in the letters - e and a are small and round, b and d are tall, p hangs down, that sort of thing.

I totally want to buy a font and make our own invites (what I really want is letterpress but I need to win the lottery first) — but I have no idea how to make our own invites. *sigh* off to google I go.

Wow! I can feel your excitement through your post-that is seriously good writing! :) I have a font question though: what are glyphs? What does it mean to get 1000 glyphs?

They are all so pretty…I love the last one! But, on the other hand, it took me three tries to figure out what it said. : (

Lady Rene and Parfait Script are clear winners in my eyes. I can’t guarantee that I won’t be heading over there to buy them…right…now…. :)

I have all of these except Lady Rene and I feel they were all worth the price, but if I had to pick just one it would be Parfait Script! It is so lovely!

I thought I would mention for those considering these fonts that you need a program that supports OpenType in order to use all the fonts have to offer.
