Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

Once we landed in Pender Harbor it finally felt like we were on vacation. The weeks leading up to the wedding had been rush, rush, rush and with our feet on Canadian soil we were finally ready to relax! Upon our arrival at the Rockwater Secret Cove resort we confirmed our activity agenda with the front desk (kayaking, horseback riding, and a couple’s massage) and went to find our Tent House! This was five-star camping!

Our tent house had a steel structure covered with a canvas “tent” . The slate floors had radiant heat; a must have every morning when we got up! I had a minor obsession with the hydrotherapy tub.

Mr P is checking out the WiFi service. Behind him was my second favorite feature, the rain shower. Needless to say we were very clean throughout our stay.

Just like a tent, our tent house had screen/plastic/canvas windows. For privacy you could roll down a canvas blind. If it got chilly (or windy) you could zip up the plastic window.

The view from our personal deck was amazing.

You access the tent houses via a raised wooden boardwalk. The staff used that large bell on our stairs when they were delivering food to our tent house. Not gonna lie, it scared the crap out of me a time or two.

By the time we arrived it was getting close to 2PM and we hadn’t eaten since breakfast. We dove into our chicken burger (topped with green apple, brie, fresh herb aioli) fries, and salad. Thankfully I remembered to take a picture before it was gone.

Beers sounded like a great idea ($7 per bottle did not, but we fixed that later) and once our bellies were full we retreated to our little oasis to chill.

This may have been when we realized that we hadn’t packed any books or magazines for reading on our porch or by the pool. Whoops—can you tell we don’t travel for pleasure much?

Later that evening we had a small plate dinner

We explored a little before wandering back to the tent house.

By the time we soaked in all the beautiful scenery we officially had made the transition to vacation mode.

Did it take a while for your body to adjust on your honeymoon?

Oh my god, I think this might have to be my honeymoon. Seriously. This looks like my absolute dream vacation. You probably don’t remember, but do you know if their menu had many vegetarian options?

Holy cow, that all looks amazing! Your “tent” (that is not a tent!) was so unique and cozy looking. Food + beer + relaxing by the water in nature= A+ honeymoon!

@mightywombat: there We’re some veggie options I would call and talk with the staff. The menu is seasonable and they use local and organic ingredients.
@Mrs. Glasses: yeah we use the term tent loosely!

@Mrs. Pretzel:
Oh, no worries, although that’s so sweet of you to offer! If we decide to book it (or seriously consider it) I can definitely do the research. :)

OMG -that looks fabulous! Maybe this would be a great way to introduce hubs to camping as he’s never been. I don’t think he’s quite ready for roughing it.

@eileen marie: It would definitely ease him into camping. I think “camping” is a loose term- it’s definitely a resort- with spa etc. ;) Its a chance to stay in nature (bald eagles perched right above our tent house) with all the luxuries of a resort.

That is such a cool idea. A “tent” room. I think I would be a bit obsessed with the rain shower and the tub as well. I love those kinds of things. But the scenery is just gorgeous. I would love to visit Canada.
