Your Colors?

January 10th, 2011 @ 11:40 am by Miss Oatmeal

You’re probably thinking, “That’s awesome, Miss Oatmeal. Great pictures. But I still have no idea what your wedding colors are.” Well, here they are. I can’t remember the thought process behind choosing these; I just all of a sudden had colors. I had colors! That made the wedding so official to me. Because the first thing everyone asked me at the beginning of the engagement was, “What are your colors?” Well, that and “When are you going to have babies???” Yikes.

Navy, Yellow, Gray

Let me break it down for you. My main ladies will be wearing navy dresses and yellow shoes of their choice. This was very important to me for a couple of reasons:

  1. I wanted each of them to feel comfortable and be able to express her personal style.
  2. Each girl can spend however much she’d like on her dress and shoes, as long as they’re navy and yellow, respectively.
  3. And basically, I love mis-matchy goodness.

So it should look something like this, but replace the matching dresses with mismatched ones. So really, it won’t look anything like this. :)

Some of the gals have gotten their dresses, while others haven’t.* I’m not at all stressed out about leaving the decision up to them. I completely trust all five ladies, and with everyone’s incredible fashion sense, I know they won’t disappoint. As for the table decor, don’t worry…I have no plans to make it an overwhelming display of yellow. I haven’t found a single picture of a table using navy and yellow that doesn’t make me want to throw up. Exaggeration. But really, most of the pictures I’ve come across are just overkill in my opinion. But I have a few tricks up my sleeve! You’ll just have to wait and see.

So, what do think of my color choices? I’m really hoping that what I’m envisioning will materialize into something beautiful and fun. Was it hard for you to decide on your color scheme, or was it an easy decision?

*Caution to those out there considering giving their bridesmaids full reign…Bridesmaid Oatmeal Leslie has bought and exchanged at least six different navy dresses since February. So I’m not getting attached to any dress she shows me. I love that girl.

awesome choice of color!!! i’ve always loved how yellow pops against navy blue :-) my color scheme was fairly easy… i’m in love with earth tones and we originally were planning for a fall 2012 wedding using fall colors….however, the day after new years, after much back n forth discussion, FH and I decided to move our wedding up to this year, July 9th to be exact, the day FH proposed….i was like holly molly what am i gonna do about colors?? i put it on the back burner quite frankly and then just the other day i was scouring thru my shoes to try and find what i wanted to wear and i rediscovered a pair of heels i had forgotten i owned….they were floral print, ivory with olive green heel and the floral print was in olive green, yellows and hints of chocolate brown….the light bulb in my head went off and i called my mom immediately and said i have my wedding colors!! lol its funny cuz before we were going to do chocolate brown as the main color with fall colors as accents and now its gonna be flipped with ivory, olive green and yellows as the main colors and then chocolate brown as the accents….lol and btw, i’m giving my girls free reign as well so thanks for the warning!!! lol we’re also planning a backyard wedding yay! :-)

Sorry I haven’t been around the Bee enough lately to welcome you earlier, but I just saw your blog and noticed that you’re a Fresno girl! I lived in Fresno for 21 years! The Valley is such a small world, I bet we know some of the same people! So funny! Anyway, I love all of your Anthro-esque inspiration and can’t wait to see your wedding come together! :)

I have the same colors. I originally started out with just Navy and Yellow, but I ended up adding Gray because I wanted grey suits, then different things for decorations started to have gray in them. Plus I found so many inspiration pictures with yellow/gray or gray/navy decorations. It is alittle harder to find inspiration boards/pictures with all three, but I figured I could easily figure out how to merge them. So I just decided why not, they look great together.

Those are my colors as well! I am having the same issue of figuring out what to do for reception table decorations. I had been telling everyone our main color was navy with gray and “pencil” yellow accents. My Mom took that to mean my centerpieces would be the yellow accents. We’re on the same page now that I only want hints of yellow (especially for the flower centerpieces). Still at a loss for what exactly they will look like. Excited to see your future posts about how you use the color scheme!

My main colors are cobalt blue, cornflower blue and lemon yellow, so not the same but similar. The hardest thing so far has been that choices are limited for blue flowers but I didn’t want tons of yellow either. I think if you use color in the vases and other components, you can do white flowers (maybe some with yellow centers?).

I love your color scheme, I was torn on whether or not to add pops of yellow. It looks amazing together!

I love those colors! I’m completely obsessed with grey right now (as a wedding color and regular every-day clothing color), and it looks fantastic with the navy and yellow! I’m torn between a similar color palette and going with earth tones (which my boyfriend is a much bigger fan of). Confession: I’m not (quite) engaged yet, but I’ve been planning my wedding since I was like 12!

@Mrs. Turtle: Mrs. Turtle! I had no idea you were from Fresno. And I’m sure you’re right, we must know some of the same people. Where are you living now?

@Miss Oatmeal: Fresno didn’t come up on my blog much because we got married in Arroyo Grande, but yeah, I graduated from Fresno State in May and moved out to Maryland for Mr. Turtle’s grad school in August. We’ll have to do a Fresno/Clovis meet-up sometime when I’m visiting home!

Our colors are Jewel tones in purple, teal, and gold! I love your colors, I really wanted to use yellow but the FI wasn’t too excited about it.

Love the colors! They remind of Mrs. Joey’s ( I think)…I remember gray and yellow and thought how fun and modern they were. Great choice!
