Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
About Mrs. Rainbow

Be Our Guest!

January 10th, 2011 @ 8:12 am by Mrs. Rainbow

Considering Mr. R and I decided to get married two and a half months before New Year’s Day, I didn’t even entertain the thought of commissioning anyone to do anything for us. I didn’t have time to stress and micromanage, not to mention thinking about the labor and shipping time. No thanks!

Instead I decided to craft our invitations myself. I ordered some Stardream paper and coordinating envelopes online and bought the rest of my supplies at my beloved Michaels. Working off of our new color scheme, I (surprisingly quickly) whipped these up in PowerPoint, had them printed at Kinko’s, and cut and pasted them together. Wanna see?

Our invitation suite. They were simple, but I’m really proud of how they turned out!

I printed the invites on quartz Stardream paper, cut them to size with a paper cutter, and rounded the edges with a corner punch. I adhered them to navy linen cardstock with simple double-sided tape.

I went with a different color pattered backing for the RSVPs just to make it a little more interesting. You’ll see more of this paper combo later!

The suite was held together with simple silver elastic string tied into a bow and finished with our little logo tags that I (also) made in PowerPoint. In case you don’t remember, we’re both taking each others’ last names, which is where the “BD” logo comes in!

Lastly, I printed the address labels on Stardream paper to match the envelopes, cut them out, and (again) used double-sided tape to stick them on the envelopes. Easy!

And there you have it! Our quick, cute, and effective invitation suite!

Are you planning on making your own invitations?

Nice! I am all for people taking each other’s names. Mr. Library is adding my maiden name as a middle name when his passport is due for updating! I’m so excited!

Very nice and lovely colors! I’m also in the process of designing my own invitation suit, but I’m afraid I’m much slower than you :-)

Love them. I am curious if you would share your invite template? We could just put Bride Name instead of your real name? I am terribly needing one like this but no photoshop! :)

Love those! I’ve been nervous I’d go overboard with the DIY (I’m an avid crafter), but you make it look much less scary than I’d thought!

Thanks everyone! They were surprisingly easy to make! I think the trick is not over-thinking it!

@Katie: The “Boy Met Girl” font is called Rosewood and the “First of January” font is called Porcelain, both of which can be downloaded for free online! The more simple “at three o’clock in the afternoon” font is called Castellar, which is a standard Windows font!

Your invitations look great! Do you know what resolution you had yours saved at? I created a file for our save the dates and between putting them into a word document, uploading it to kinkos, and them downloading it to print the quality wasn’t super. Also do you have a recommendation for what paper to have them print it on?

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

@Lulu: I made them in Powerpoint, two invites per slide, then saved them as a PDF, put them on a flash drive and printed them @ Kinkos. Your best bet is to save as a PDF and print it that way.

I have over a year until our wedding, but you have definitely inspired me to get the lead out and start seriously looking into what I want to do for invites… the things I had in mind are BORING in comparison to some that I have seen on here… I love your style!!

Oooh, I hadn’t thought to do them in powerpoint, that’s brilliant! I think saving it to a flash drive and going in person will make a big difference in the quality of the print. Thanks so much, your invites look lovely!
