Mrs. Prairie Dog's Picture
Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer Engagement Date: December 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Glendale Lyceum About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
About Mrs. Prairie Dog

I haven’t written much about vendor decisions because, well, our search would be boring to you. There was a LOT of Google-searching—-of pictures, reviews, prices, locations. I loved our caterer’s menus online and his overall enthusiasm for being creative with food. His food was absolutely delicious, his laid-back demeanor made me feel at ease, and he’s familiar with our venue and its kitchen. We didn’t make another tasting appointment; we were sold. (See? Not very helpful.)

BUT, I feel I should let you in on our venue.

After days of digging through local magazines and online resources, we found our first two contenders: The Glendale Lyceum and Ault Park:

Where We Will Eat, Drink, and Dance : wedding cincinnati venues Aultpar aultpar

Ault Park is, as the website accurately describes it, resplendent. The park is stunning to behold in person and, unsurprisingly, is very popular for Cincinnati weddings. My parents came down to tour both places because I wanted their input. Once we had all looked at these two places, it wasn’t a matter of IF either would work. Both could, easily, so I started weighing the pros and cons.

At first glance, the park seemed significantly cheaper than the Lyceum. But once we factored in rentals and the set list of caterers that can be used….the prices were about tied.

After a few days of mulling it over, Mr. PD and I felt much better about having an inside wedding. When we had toured The Lyceum, both we and my parents were smitten. You can take a virtual tour here, if you want to see the whole place.

Charming wallpaper greets you:

One of our favorite features? A lounge room for grandparents who want quiet / anyone who wants to relax:

Where We Will Eat, Drink, and Dance : wedding cincinnati venues Lyceumi lyceumi

And of course the butter-yellow ballroom:

Where We Will Eat, Drink, and Dance : wedding cincinnati venues Ballroo ballroo

(from the wedding of a couple who had great taste!)

It’s all very country-club-lite, very Gatsby-era with some updates. We love it; it’s the perfect size and comes with all sorts of great amenities.

What do you think?

Love it! I’m jealous. We had to go with a country club because there was nothing with this much character that would seat our whole guest list (and was in our price range) in our area.

I LOVE venue posts! The feel of yours is nice. I dig those arches and that grand stairway leading up to it.

Suits you perfectly! It’s a lot like our venue, which is a WWI era grand mansion, now country club.

I just love the Glendale Lyceum, it is beautiful. I wonder how budget friendly or un-friendly it is?
