Ta-Ta To-Do

January 11th, 2011 @ 9:16 am by Mrs. Zebra

Hi folks! I’ve got a little secret for you. I’ve cut the first project off of my to-do list and it feels damn good. I’m now able to distinguish what is cost effective/worth the time! I could not justify the expense of this project on top of our photobooth picture favors and another little something I’ve got up my sleeve to thank our guests for attending. I thought it was a good idea nevertheless, and am a little sad to not see it executed at our wedding. So I wanted to share it with you in hopes you might think it as awesome and can utilize the idea.

Ta-Ta To-Do : wedding favors providence Honey Honey

Super Cute

Honey Moon Favors

When I went to England in 2007, we visited Shakespeare’s Grandmother’s home. The guide told us that many of the words we use today have roots in the Shakespearean time. Like spooning—which was what a man made while he was courting a woman. Her father would give the young man a piece of wood that he was to whittle into a spoon in order to keep his hands occupied. Good stuff, huh? I think I’ll do that to my future daughter’s first boyfriend…embarrassing, much?

Welp, honeymoon is one of those Shakespearean words as well. When a woman and man married, the father of the bride would give the happy couple a month’s supply of mead (alcoholic beverage made from honey) in order to loosen them up in hopes of jump-starting their sexytime babymaking. Bow chicka wow wow!

So, a moon’s worth of honey, or honeymoon, is how a couple would start their marriage. Drunk and loose… okay, moving on.

I wanted to make honey favors from Mrs. Mouse’s tutorial and have a sign explaining the origin of the word “honeymoon.” At the end of the explanation, I wanted to include a line that says,

“Enjoy your second honeymoon on behalf of the newlyweds”—or something equally as cute/cheesy.

So, there is my first project tossed into the wind due to cost effectiveness and importance next to the fact that I still haven’t made the flower girl dresses…okay, moving on again!

Do you know the origins of any other wedding-related words?

I’m kind of confused, will you be giving the guests honey, or mead? Either way, it’s a great idea! ;)

I remember that feeling. As the wedding got closer I was about to pull my hair out if I didn’t cut a couple things. Don’t worry, I didn’t miss a single thing I cut from my list. :-P

I’m a big believer in prioritizing wedding projects, or else they would completely take over our lives.

What a cute project! I hope someone can make use of it for their wedding :)

super cute! I doubt I will get to a project like that (planning from a distance = difficulty transporting lots of glass jars) but I’m sure someone will use it!

Cutting projects is the hardest thing to do, but absolutely necessary to maintain sanity as the wedding draws closer. Plus this way you will be able to give yourself 100% to the other projects you have lined up. For me, it was the idea of folding 1001 origami cranes that I just had to let go of last week as that seems liable to make me crazy!

Oh wow, I didn’t know that. Makes sense now. It would’ve been really cool to have but that’s okay.

Ohhh, interesting, I like how they got down in Shakespearean time. That would’ve been a really cute favor too.

I’m sure someone will use it. And I totally geeked out on the interesting wedding facts.

I thought spooning was from how you fit together like 2 spoons when you cuddle. Guess you learn something everyday!

@teacherandageek: Just honey. I should know this but I’m not sure anyone makes Mead anymore.

@Megrit: @Roux: There’s also a Shakespearean reason why a man carries a woman over the threshold. I zoned out but I remember it had something to do with the shitter being located under the floor and wearing your Sunday best dress. :0)

Such a cute idea! Too bad it had to be scrapped, but hopefully we’ll see it in a recap of another bride soon!
