Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

A Bloodshot Bride

January 11th, 2011 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Hippo

I’ve been traveling for work the last couple of days, and I’ve discovered that three cities in three days, a lot of late nights and a tad bit of stress from putting on back-to-back events have created a very unfortunate looking Hippo.

Exhibit #1 - Bloodshot Eyes:

A Bloodshot Bride : wedding beauty dallas Bloodsh bloodsh

I don’t have contacts in that are irritating my eyes. I don’t even wear contacts. I didn’t get soap in my eyes. And I most certainly didn’t smoke a bowl this morning in lieu of breakfast. Those bloodshot eyes are the result of far too few hours of sleep.

When I woke up this morning and realized just how terrible I looked, I started thinking about our wedding. I’m going to be tired. I kinda imagine that I won’t be getting long, restful nights of sleep surrounding the big event. And chances are high that I will have some stress. If my eyes look all bloodshot like this, I will be so upset. Oh, and don’t forget the crying. Add that to the list of things that might just turn my normal whites into a bloodshot mess. Ugh…

Surely there’s got to be some magical eye drops that will turn my eyes from red and crappy to white and bright. If anyone has a solution (other than Photoshop), I’d love to hear it!

Is anyone else out there worried about their eyes looking red and veiny on their wedding day?

I’m so worried about crying. You’re not alone here! I have a feeling it’s going to get out of control. I’m really hoping I’ll be too caught up in the moment to cry. One can wish!

As for eye drops, I wish I was more help! I don’t have any recommendations for ya :)

Similasan drop, I had to use the Pink Eye Relief drops to look normal at a formal event and they were a lifesaver.

Hi Miss Hippo! First time poster on your posts specifically. There’s an awesome eyedrop from Japan called Neo FX - they are marketed to asians who have irritated and red eyes from their popular “geo lens” fad (contacts that make the eyes appear bigger). They’re described to cause a sort of ‘cooling’ sensation immediately eliminating redness. If you’re interested here are some reviews you can look over:

LOL I was just looking at our pic from the bay area meetup and thinking about my red eyes. I have this problem really badly (but I DO wear contacts). My eyes aren’t irritated so I never think about it until I see my gross tired red eyes.

Following the comments on this post like a hawk! I want white eyes too :)

I am the queen of dry, red eyes. The only drop I’ve found effective for redness is Clear Eyes- the maximum redness relief kind. I’ve used Opcon-A, which is great for allergies and dryness for me, but it doesn’t really get rid of the redness. Don’t forget to blink, either! Dryness could have something to do with it on top of being tired. The only issue I’ve ever had is that sometimes drops dilate my pupils- but never both at the same time. I can’t decide which is weirder- to walk around with one giant pupil and one regular sized one or to have two questionably red eyes…

Mr. Panther swears by Naphcon-A (that’s different from Opcon-A, apparently). He’s addicted!

Rhoto-V Eye drops! They work! And they have a little menthol in them too, so they wake you up!

Thanks for posting, no recommendations but I will definitely be looking into the above eye drops suggested by other Bees :-). I am six months away and just the thought of the day gets me teary-eyed!! I hope I don’t go into a frantic cry where I can’t control myself!!

Bausch & Lomb advanced redness instant relief works! My eyes tend to get really irritated and red after putting on makeup, but these drops totally get all of the red out all day.

Visine Multiple Symptom Relief works for me. It has cured:
-Red eyes due to being around smokers the night before
-Red eyes due to crying
-Red eyes due to being tired
-Red eyes due to allergies

I seriously love this stuff. It’s definitely worth a try if you haven’t.

I drank a lot on my wedding day. Not even gonna lie. Eyes were totally bloodshot. It’s good that you are thinking about this early on!

“And I most certainly didn’t smoke a bowl this morning in lieu of breakfast.” favorite.line.ever. :)

Moving on… I have a prosthetic eye, and the surface of my eye dries out a lot. I’d been using eye drops (like Visine for red-eyes) for that, and to help dryness in my real eye. It wasn’t really helping, so I asked my ocularist, and he said eye drops like that are a big no-no! Apparently, they have a mineral in them, and as they evaporate, the mineral gets crystallized on your eye and makes them drier and it irritates your eyes. He told me to use the eye drops formulated to work with contacts. It’s thicker and doesn’t dry your eyes out. There’s one brand that I like, but unfortunately, I can’t find the bottle and I cannot remember the name. I guess, go scout the eye drops aisle for a contact-friendly eye drop.
