Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

{teaser of our RSVP postcard!}

Bees, I’m bouncing off the walls over here….cartwheels, unstoppable squealing, and a mile-wide smile like you’ve never seen.

our wedding invites arrived!!!

{our dreamy invitations…waiting to be unwrapped!}

To be honest, our invites arrived two months ago but I had to keep them under wraps until they were delivered to our awesome guests. But, I’m still walking on air because they are exactly what Mr. O and I dreamed they would look like….and more.

And now that all of our guests have received their invitations, the coast is finally clear to share these beauties with the hive. Yay!

A little intro about them before I unleash them:

  • They’re designed by Anna Bond of the whimsical Rifle Design—we were lucky enough to order from their new Wedding Template Collection!
  • We provided color palette and images of the Ostrich Duo, our wedding threads and any other bits we hoped to have drawn into our invitation design.
  • Mr. Ostrich penned all of the invitation wording…in the clever, unfussy, Ostrich-style voice that made it sound like we were talking to our guests instead of a formal declaration. For us, our invitation is the teaser trailer of our little beach wedding…and wanted our invitation sound as breezy, intimate and fun as possible.
  • They were an investment…financially. They are wayyy cheaper and faster than Rifle’s custom orders, but it is a far cry from a DIY budget. There was still custom work involved in our design, too. Couple Illustration, Hand Calligraphy, Custom additions {beach critters, etc}—they all add up. And for some wedding couples, invitations aren’t the place where they want to double down. For this lover-of-all-things-whimsical Ostrich duo, it was.

OK, I need to stop babbling and let the invites do the talking.

Drum roll please….

Here they are…the one and only Ostrich Wedding Invitations!

THE RSVP POSTCARD

the goal – to make our guests hungry! :)

Working on this with Mr. O and the Rifle Design has been a blast and we’re thrilled that our favorite people had the reaction we hoped they would. “These invites are so you. SO. EXCITED. FOR. HAWAII!” And while the RSVP postcards have been trickling in, we’ve gotten more verbal and email responses because they want to keep the card.

Awesome. :)

Our friends have been asking us what our favorite part of our invitation is. And while it will be impossible for me to narrow it down to one thing, my favorites are the dazzling colors of the sunset, the couple illustration + napoleon and the last line of our invitation:  ”TASTY EATS, POTENT SPIRITS AND RECKLESS MERRIMENT TO FOLLOW.” Our celebration, perfectly defined.

Bees, what are your favorite parts of your wedding invitation? The charming design, the colors, the DIY details? I’d love to hear!

Love the invites! I am a huge fan of Anna Bond. Just curious though…every time I check the website, it says “coming soon” for the wedding templates (including your link, which is what I see every time I go to that page of the Rifle Paper Co. website)…how did you get a peak at the templates when they aren’t there???
