Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

Crushing on Etsy

January 12th, 2011 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Tartlet

Etsy is an online community of artisans with a focus on the handmade and vintage. Think of it as a global arts-and-crafts fair that runs 24/7. This website has been a priceless resource, giving me access to unique items that I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to, like this alphabet rolling stamp that Mrs. Stripes also used.

I love the idea of being able to “support local,” and I think these items will add a lot of personality to our overall look! Some other fabulous Etsy finds include custom illustrations by franceslovesyou, also known hereabouts as Mrs. Gummi Bear.

Vintage, upcycled chalkboards from ShabbyChalks are of great quality, and I’m still on the hunt for just the right ones to round out our reception decor:

While I didn’t purchase anything I’m listing below, I’m still sorely tempted. These delicate, unique headpieces from mignonnehandmade could have been pulled from A Midsummer Night’s Dream:

Custom hangers from lilafrances have made their rounds on the wedding blog-o-sphere, and I still love seeing photos of them:

I could wear one of these oversized hair pieces from myrakim (also known as Twigs & Honey) on a daily basis, right?

Shoe accessories? What a brilliant idea! Check out these little bouquets for your feet from B. Poetic. They’re a great way to add some pop to your shoes, and there are a plethora of DIY tutorials out there (Ruffled, Mrs. Beagle, and Green Wedding Shoes, just to name a few).

I love etsy now, but I hadn’t heard of it until I was engaged and found weddingbee. So far I’ve only bought three things from there, but I have my eye on a few others.

I had no clue what Etsy was until I got engaged, now I can’t live without it. Some of my recent purcased have been from Whiskerworks for photo booth props, great quality, Loboheme she make such beautiful hair pieces and my favorite so far has been my Mr. & Mrs. Forks from Beachhouseliving they are stunning. Etsy is a place I will visit long after I am married!

i found 10West for my bridesmaids gifts (I am giving them simple necklaces to wear for the wedding.)

Sew Whimsey to get hair flowers as gifts for my flower girls

SeaOfGlass for vintage and antique jars for centerpieces

I purchased my unity candle stand from MakeYourNest.

if you haven’t gathered… etsy is one of my FAVORITE places to get unique items for really cheap! I agree with you. I love being able to get items made in the USA.

I knew all about Etsy before getting engaged or finding WeddingBee, but I never knew how much I would use it for the wedding. Just last night I was telling Mr. Lox all of the different countries my bridal outfit has come from!

Etsy is THE BEST! =) I never guessed that I’d spend so much money there for the wedding! But it makes mine >somewhat< unique! And these are things that you really can’t find in stores!

I love B.Poetic! I have shoe clips that I adore! My ladies might be rocking them on their toes on the big day, too. I think Etsy really is the best place for unique wedding gear. Have you seen the amazing cake toppers they have?

@toopeas: Pardon me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard after seeing Loboheme’s hairpieces…WOW. Just gorgeous!
@Miss Lox: The international aspect is fantastic! My wallet is from Italiacraft. Everyone assumes it’s from Fossil, and then I have to explain what Etsy is.
@cr6zy: I may or may not have some nursery decor on my favorites list already…;)
@KayMeiBee: Oh goodness, yes! So many cake toppers. o.O I love the ones from goosegrease!

Funny thing with Etsy…I found it senior year of college when I was trying to think of ways to make extra cash….this is when I thought maybe I could make jewelery (yeah, not so much)…needless to say I never made a sale back then, but kept my account open…I didn’t think of the site much until I started planning my wedding and learned that it had really taken off and that they had so many great things to offer. I think it’s a great resource for brides both for buying and offering inspiration to DIY savvy planners. I know I was inspired by it’s many wedding related shops!
