Feeling Like a Short Haired Bride

January 12th, 2011 @ 12:57 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

I have a confession to make with you hive. See, I’m finally starting to think about my whole wedding day look, and, well, I feel like a short haired bride.

That’s not to say that short haired brides aren’t fantastic. They are. I mean, look at this lovely lady.

Feeling Like a Short Haired Bride : wedding chicago hair Short H It’s just that I never thought I’d feel like a short haired bride. When I was younger, I always had short soccer mom style hair because I hated brushing and dealing with it. Then in high school, I grew it out until senior year when I cut off 8 inches of it.

Then in college, I got lazy again and let it grow and grow.

I mean, cutting your hair took time and about $14. I wasn’t going to have any part of that. ;) This means that my hair kept getting longer, without me really realizing it.

But then I started zipping my hair into my purse and shutting it in my car door. It was getting too much to handle, soooo…

Well, 13 inches later (and yes I donated!), I feel like a short haired bride. I’m worried that I won’t be able to have the pretty and fancy hair I’ve been looking at. There are some unbelievably gorgeous hairstyles out there.

Now, I don’t know what to  do. I’m not sure what my hair will be long enough for or what exactly want I want it to look like.

Are you growing your hair out for your wedding to achieve a certain wedding style? How’s it going?

You’ve got a long time to grow it out! 5 months can be 5 inches.. Take vitamins & keep it healthy! I even went as far as getting the clip in human hair extensions at Sally’s to add about 4 inches to my hair & no one knew they were there! It’s an investment at $80, but I’m hoping I’ll actually wear them again! Good luck!

I know what you mean! Last March my hair got to be a little more than I could handle, getting caught in car doors is never pleasant. I cut and layered it above my shoulders. Now I’ve fallen in LOVE with a particular hair style for the wedding and I’m concerned it won’t grow back fast enough for me to be able to pull it off. These pesky layers are worrying me to no end. You are not alone Miss Giraffe. But may I saw your hair does look beautiful at the length you currently have, and I’m sure we will both find something that works for us.

my mom is a haridresser and said she can do updos on my bridesmaids with shoulder length hair… just go have a play day with a hairstylist and see what they can do! :)

Clip-in extensions! Not only are they inexpensive (around $30), they don’t damage your hair and can easily be worked into your wedding style by your hairstylist. Some can even be heat styled with ordinary curling irons/straighteners! I adore mine, and love not having to commit to the more permanant ones done in the salon.

whoa. your post-chop hair is still longer than mine, and this is the longest mine has ever been! I would say to find a style you love and take it to your hair stylist… you might be surprised what can be achieved with “limited locks”!

I had close to a pixie cut when I got engaged and have been growing my hair out since. My hair was shorter than yours is now when we had our engagement photos done! While I couldn’t pull off the gorgeous braid twist, my hairstylist was definitely able to give me an updo.

I started to grow out a pixie cut a year before we got engaged, so it was still pretty short. Then I had under a year to grow it out as long as I could. by the time the wedding came around it was just below my chin. My I showed my hairdresser a picture of the idea of what style I wanted (wavey and loosely pulled back) and she added two hair pieces for extra volume and curled my real hair. She then pinned everything to LOOK like cascades of curls pulled back, but really it was just my short hair curled up. The before and after pics are crazy. I’m sure you could do whatever you want with the aid of some hair pieces.

Your “short” hair is as long as my “long” hair that I’ve been growing out since 2007, haha! I think it seems like your hair is pretty thick, so I’m sure you’ll have plenty to do something pretty!

I think your hair will turn out fine…I agree that your “short” hair is still quite long and with the time you have it should grow plenty more. I was worried about mine not being long enough, but it was fine.

Eh, if you don’t think it’s long enough, order some clip-ins from Ebay. Will run you about $30 for extra-extra long ones!

I think your hair is thick and long enough that it would be able to accommodate the styles you like, especially by May! But go for a trial; if it feels too short to you; or the stylist tells you you’ll need more, go for the extensions!

Good luck

Your hair still looks beautiful at that length - and it’s definitely not short! Maybe not SUPER long, but still long enough to work with. Are you having a hair trial?

Loving that first braid photo! Is your “short” hair long enough for that? I’d like to see a trial of it on you!

Your hair doesn’t look too short in the after picture (still past the shoulders?). I’m sure you’ll be able to do tons of things with it, especially ‘cuz you’ve got big, thick hair (like me!). If you aren’t able to pull anything you like off, I like what another commenter suggested - clip on extensions! Remember Mrs. Snow? It can be done!

I used to have hair just like your ‘before’ photos, but a couple years ago I got frustrated with it and chopped it off to chin length. Now that I’m looking at updos, I’m sad I don’t have that mass of hair any more!

I’m totally going through this right now too! I never thought I’d be a short hair bride, but when I tried my dress on with the head piece.. I just loved it (my hair was/is super short). I still have a while to decide, but it’s hard! Decisions, decisions.

you have thick hair, you could even get knot/strand extensions to add length. They would blend perfectly, and your hair could handle it and mask it well. My friend, who is of eastern indian decent, did this for her wedding, adding like 6-8 inches to her hair because she had cut it. you couldn’t tell. it was beautiful.
